Rules of the Land of Twilight
1) Do not murder with unjust cause.
2) Do not associate with the creatures of the Otherworld, unless human.
3) No child of the Twilight is to mate with any other race but their own.
If any of these rules are broken the offender must report to the Elders of their Fraction for further punishment.
(Heku Lanson)
It is early morning when I awake, panting and sweating. My chest feels as if it is on fire, though I know nothing is truly wrong... or I hope anyway. For the past few months the same nightmare had haunted me.
I am in a forest, the trees are black and cold and the sky is a bloody red. I run forward, voices surrounding me, whispering to me that I am going to die.
I run into a clearing, panting hard. A girl is standing there, but I can't see her face. It's shadowed out. She has shoulder length brown hair and pale skin. She looks so fragile. She calls my name but I can't get any closer.
She holds out her hand to me and I try to grasp it, but then I am falling into a dark pit. Falling, falling.. it never seems to end..
Then suddenly I am awake. I am lying in my bed, tangled in the sheets. A small puca named Jethro jumps onto my bed in the form of a deep purple cat and sits, speaking quietly.
"Mistress Heku." he says and bows his head, his voice deep and always thoughtful. I smile, petting his head softly. My brilliant green eyes are no longer afraid.
"Good morning Jethro." I say sweetly and hop out of bed, landing gracefully on my feet. Jethro watches as I run a brush through my ankle length black hair.
"Anna informs me that the Elders were looking for you once more, but still can't seem to find you." Jethro frowns and adverts his eyes as I toss off the nightgown and dig through my closet until I find what I am looking for; a magenta colored belly dancer's outfit and a silver heart shaped locket.
"Is that so? Ha. Like I care much." I say, scoffing as I quickly braid my hair and sit on my bed again. The girl from my nightmare is stuck in my head. The way she giggles, the way she calls my name.. It makes my heart beat fast. Jethro sighs.
"Why must you hide? You are only human and it is not like you've done anything wrong." he states matter-of-factly.
"Because they want me to become a leech or a shifter. I don't want to be one. I have the Sight, but I plan to stay human. I'm happy as a normal human." Jethro looks a bit hurt. I pat his head. "I could do without pesky little Goblins to!" He laughs and gently nips at my hand before shifting to his true form.
"Well, they were kind enough to take you into their land after the vampires attacked you.." I set my hand on my neck, frowning as my gaze falls to the ground.
"I didn't need their help.."
"Lady Heku.."
"Come on Jethro, let's head out." I say. He sighs and takes the form of a Raven and sits on my shoulder as I open the door and step out, down the hallway and out the front door.
Just like always I am greeted with the sight of a busy and peaceful village. Jenn and Zander the elves are selling fine silk clothes for cheap prices just down the street. Werecats Sam and Kyle, both around the age of six play tag together in their animal forms as their mother Zena hangs laundry out to dry.
A witch chats merrily with a dragon in it's human form, talking about some sort of spell and such. i wave to Amarth, a very handsome angel. He has nape length black hair and piercing green eyes. Once he passes I sit on the steps and sigh, looking down.
I realize the city has gone up and a shadow passes over me. Three cloaked figures stand before me, making the air cold.
"Heku Lanson, the Elders have requested an audience." says one but I can't tell who or if it is even male or female. The middle one lashes out at me and I black out.
