Donna Linton

I got back into my apartment late that evening, and for once had finally gotten the full on chance to null my now complaining stomach with the last few pounds of hippo burger meat, and all other assorted food items I had safely tucked away in the fridge; with the constant thought of Greystripe bearing down heavily on my mind as I sat solemnly down at the table and began to dig in. Mwezi was already well beyond lights out in our bedroom across the hall. I didn’t at all tell her about the new and heartbreaking discovery I got word from Emma on Cliff Street just mere moments ago, out of complete fear of just how she would go about handling it the very second those few words “Your sister’s now gone too” rolled off my tongue and into the mental processing section of her brain. Surely I’d get the word out to him and all the rest of our many comrades surrounding the both of us as well, but it would sure as hell take a very precious commodity called time. A hell of a whole lot of time. My train of thought was suddenly lost about a second or so by the ring of the door buzzer at just around 10:55 PM. I steadily rose to my feet and was surprised when I caught whiff of just whom it happened to be, and especially at this hour. “Hey, Les, Emmie. What’s up-…?” I just barely finished to get the last part of the word out before Leslie wrapped her plump wolf arms around my just as equally thick waist in a python like grip and embrace before breaking out into a heart sinking fit of heavy sobs and hiccups. Emma apparently had a few tear marks of her own staining the stark grey and white fur under her chocolate brown eyes, but albeit still managed to keep her composure as I gently began to console our older wolf compadre and allowed her a seat on the gazelle skin sofa while she slowly dried her eyes and began to talk a few things out. “Jenni’s dead, Donnie.” She managed to choke out through a few more hiccups. “She apparently just snapped past her breaking point and then decided to take the weak way out.” “Fuck.” I sighed, gritting my teeth and now ready and waiting to happily rip to pieces the very one responsible for such a benign saint’s end. “Are you sure you and the other cops are clearly safe to say it was a suicide?” “Yeah.” Emma replied. “She and Jessica just sent homicide out to investigate her residence not too long while ago.” “Great.” I replied. “Maybe we should grab our asses and take a little trip down there ourselves as well; pound the concrete and find out just what the hell is going down on our turf. Somethin’ definitely don’t seem right here.” “Good idea.” Leslie agreed with a nod. I slipped on my usual pair of black leather thong sandals at the door and fished in the pockets of my blood red jeans for my hoopty’s keys to begin treading quickly down the long staircase to the ground floor with my two best lupine sisters staying lovingly on my heels in tow.
