Her Words Taste

I was horrified as I watched her body bend like nothing I've ever seen, how the noise of breaking bones sent splatters of black paint across my vision and left a sour taste in my mouth, the type you get after being sick to you stomach. Which the mere taste made my stomach churn. As I gulped down any sensation I had of losing my meal, I didn't realize that she had finished. Her gasping for air as if this change made her hold her breath, I didn't know what to do. But my body did, before my mind caught up, I was already watching fogged sparkles of her breath so close to me, the noise ringing in me from it swirled my vision as I hugged her tight, as if my touch could will away her pain.

“Aella.. What was that? What are you?” The bitterness of my own confusion didn't help the inner battle versus myself and my stomach. But the golden bubbles that her soft giggles sent across my vision made the taste manageable.

“I hope I didn't scare you.”

“Not at all, I. I just don't know what to think of it. That's all.” I pulled away enough to look at her. She looked so very weak, as if my movement my turn her to dust.

“It's understandable.” Her smile almost brought tears to me eyes. Almost. “Now, Leto. I don't need you holding me up.” She was right, from that moment of being fragile, she was now her usual strong self, ready to take on the world more then once.

“My apologies.” I glanced away, releasing her as well. I really didn't know what to think of it, she had been a pet all my life, and now. A female.

“Don't be sorry, It is fine.” Aella sat up and stretched out before rubbing her eyes like a groggy child. “I haven't shifted since I met you, I'm surprised I managed this well.” She laughed some and I felt the radiance of her smile just like you would feel the sun.

“You. You never answered my questions.” I rushed the sentence, not willing to taste my words as much, though it still came.

“Shifting. A Mimic.” Those words left some sort of sweet candy-like taste, though that were foreign to me, I liked that taste. As I opened her mouth to question her, she interrupted my thoughts. “A Mimic is not

like a Shape-shifter if you were wondering. They're more snobby and would rather be inanimate objects then living. Those brats. I knew a Shape-shifter before. He was so stuck on the wall, Well I mean literally he decided to be –“ She stopped after noticing my sudden wincing. The words she used stabbed at my skull and eyes, they were so sharp that flashes of bright orange sprang over my eyes. “Oh dear, Sorry. I keep forgetting about your. Your.”

“Syn. Synesthesia.”

“Yes! That! I'm sorry Leto. Can I help with the pain?”

“I'll. Be fine. Continue?” My gaze flickered to her as I smiled weakly. The flashed eased as her care smoothed over the pain like warm honey.

“You see, I can shift into anything I've seen in my lifetime, which is very long, if I may add. While Shape-shifter seem to only be limited to things that either don't move or don't move much, except for their original form from birth. It's quite different since stories give them far to much credit.” Her sigh sent little sea foam polka dots that battle with the violet zigzag of her words, which distracted me from her next paragraph of lecturing to me. “Leto?”

“Yes?” I snapped out of the war, giving her my lacked attention.

“You're not even paying attention.”

“Am I?”

“Don't play dumb.”

“I'm not dumb.”

“I know that.”

“Then why would I play it?”

“I'm confused.” Her pouts are like pop rocks, tingling my tongue, which I'm sad to say that I liked it. I reached out to smooth her hair as comfort but she stopped for a moment and glanced about.

“Aella, what is it?”

“I don't trust this place.” She stood, walking to the broken window of my old hideout, it never made my head hurt of my vision colorful, so I liked it. Though the rustling of leaves always made me taste honeydew melons, so it was also rewarding at times. Standing up as well, I talked over to her. My eyes catching the sun, making an orchestra play a loud, screechy version of some thing that didn't even sound like music. Which is probably why I didn't notice the spray of red across my vision not from the sun. When I adverted my eyes to stop the orchestra, they laid directly on Aella, So much hit me.

Pop rocks, Foggy Sparkles, Black Splatters, Orange swirls and the Peachy smell that should have never reached my noise. You'd think seeing someone day wouldn't be so calming. Maybe it was only because of how perfect my loyal companion. No. My Friend was.

I watched, soothed in all the angelic melodies as her body just absorbed into the arrow sticking out of her stomach, as her body seemed to melt away into the object. I should have listened to her second lecture, but why? I just witnessed myself, the only way a Mimic can become an object they've never seen. Once again, I'm sad to say, I liked it.
