everyone in my grade opened the books and got to work.
this isn't regular exams. this is vamp exams. if we fail these, we literary fail life.
most of the stuff on the test was on Robby's. good, i think i'd die if i failed.
and that's literary and figuratively.
"time."
everyone got up and gave the tests to Gianna.
i took a deep breath and closed my book.
i gave it to Gianna and left, running smack into Preston.
"no," he said, as i tried to escape.
he dragged me to the garden.
"why?"
"huh?"
"why would you go there with out me, you know, how i feel."
he didn't sound angry anymore he seemed... sad...like he let me down or something. or did he sound betrayed?
"i had Tie."
"Tie, can't protect you like i can."
i didn't say anything, cause i knew Tie was given gifts to keep me alive.
"Are you always going to think you can protect me the best?"
his face softened.
"yeah, and i can protect your mind to."
he was standing to close, and i took a step back and hit a wall.
he pressed his self against me.
"why do you do this to me?" he whispered.
"what am i doing?" i asked.
what was i doing?
"you make it hard to breathe."
i bit my lip. he had no f-ing idea what he did to me.
"My bed misses you."
"i bet it does."
"it does, your sent is gone."
"you know my sent?"
he backed up ever so little, and nodded.
"does your bed miss me or do you miss me?"
"i guess i do. when i miss you i smell my pillow, and now that your sent is gone..." his voice trailed off, and he kissed my neck, sending a wave of nervousness through me.
"what's wrong?" he asked.
"nothing."
"why don't you spend the night with me, so i can hold you?"
that didn't sound to damn bad right about now.
"he's back."
he pushed off of the wall and took off, in the direction of.... shit, the direction of Gianna's office.
i ran the other way.
"Hey!"
i grabbed Tatum's hand, after i bumped into her and took off the the dorms.
"i think Preston's gonna tell Gianna that Benton's back."
"What!" they all yelled.
"come again?" Liv said.
i told her everything.
"what!"
"little late for that little red." Tatum said.
"Deven, Joyce!"
"shit."
i cowered against Gianna's voice.
"Mommy!" i said, arms held open
she gave me a disapproving look, and i dropped my hands.
"Tattle tale." Evelon muttered.
"you know the rules, do i have to ground you?"
"No," we all said.
"did he look like he was weak?"
"nope, he looked like he was pulling his shit together." Tatum said.
"this could be bad."
"we need to like, post guards, so he won't come to the school. i vote they be dudes, and 12th graders." Liv said.
"good idea." Robby said.
"I'll look into it."
with that Gianna was gone, Preston, at her heels.
"since when did Preston, become such a mamma's boy?" Tatum asked.
"Since he doesn't have one."
everyone turned to Evelon, open mouthed.
we all looked at Tatum, who just shrugged.
"i have to-"
my friends watched as i left the room.
i took a shower, and crawled into Preston's bed.
Preston came in and took off his jacket, and set it down.
he looked up and saw me in his bed.
he sat down on the bed and took off his shoes.
he got under the covers and stared at the roof.
i held my breath, and slowly put my head on his chest.
i let out my breath, as his hand stroked through my hair once, and rested on my head.
i relaxed into him.
he kissed my forehead and i closed my eyes.
the next morning a guy came up to me.
"Gianna wants you now."
i followed him.
"What was she doing outside the front gates!" she yelled.
"i tried to stop her." a kid said.
"what's going on?"
"Deven i'm so sorry." the kid said.
"what's going on?" i asked.
"Benton has Evelon." Gianna said.

"What should we do?" he asked.
i could tell he was about to flip.
"Don't you know?" i asked, about to flip myself.
"you The one who Rains over all vamps."
"uh, we should tell Gianna."
"Good idea." Tie said, turning.
"There you are." Preston said.
"Look i can't talk."
"What's Wrong?"
"i Have to talk to Gianna."
"you went."
"I had to it was eating me."
"I don't want you going alone."
"I went with Tie."
i looked to the music stand where Tie was telling her.
she came to me.
"My office, now."
she led us to the office.
"You know the rules about leaving campus, on Halloween."
"yeah, but should we follow a rule, or go see if we could be in danger?" I said.
"What about this Vampire witch?"
"it's all in here."Evelon said, giving the book to Gianna.
"this soul stuff comes in handy." She said to me.
not really, considering i didn't want Gianna to know about the book.
"this is good to have, we must not let this book get into the wrong hands."
Tell me about it.
"you said that the grave was uncovered?"
Tie nodded.
"were the ashes gone?"
Tie opened his mouth.
"No, i checked before we left." i said.
i stared at the ground.
"What's going on?" Tatum asked.
Robby was right behind her, Preston came slowly around the corner.
when our eyes met they where cold. i looked away. i new i was going to be in trouble.
i bit my lip, trying to not laugh. even though Preston was scary looking, with his longer hair, and way buffer body, i still though he looked cute.
Gianna flipped through the book.
"How are we gonna know if he's alive?" Robby asked.
i wanted to hug him, for his innocence.
"Preston did he know a vampire witch?" Tatum asked.
i quickly looked at him. Preston didn't like talking about his father.
"No." Preston's voice was cold.
was i the only one who caught the hate in it?
i looked around at my friends and Vampire mom.
they didn't seem to notice.
i looked back up to Preston under my lashes.
we was watching me, and when i kept looking, he winked at me.
what is is problem, he's jumped off the deep end this time for sure.
i looked away, trying to keep my breathing calm.
i wanted nothing more than, to go to him and let him hold me.
was i becoming to dependent on him?
"we'll have to find out, if he'll come back." Gianna said.
"he'll come back if there's a vampire witch involved." Evelon said.
i looked over at her she had never talked so much about vamp problems.
"he'll be coming for me." i whispered.
a chill had been set through the air, and everyone seemed to become stiff.
"How do we find out, i'll protect Deven until my last breath." Tie said.
A shock went through my body.
"what just happened?" Tie asked, holding his chest.
"You just vowed to Protect her. Your Her guard. you'll be able to fell when she's in trouble and you'll be able to find her." Gianna said.
great another one of my friends put in danger because of me. First Evelon, with the soul thing, Preston with the Jaded thing, and now Tie with the guard thing.
i felt like i was going to fall apart, cause i knew when Tie said, his last breath, he'd jump in front of a gun for me, and it scared the living hell out of me.
"is there a way to undo it?" i asked.
"No, you'll be tied together forever, like you and Evelon or Preston and you."
perfect cause that's just what i want to hear, while some power crazy vampire wants me as his power slave, so he can take over the world.
"why don't you all go back to the bash, i'll figure this out, with the other teachers."
we all filed out. as a hand clamped around my elbow i knew i was in trouble. i watched my friends go down the hall, in my mind yelling for them to turn.
once they were gone i was turned around and was face to face with Preston.
"Hiya!" i said.
"you no i don't want you going there with out me, even more so on this night, where this is the only night he can be brought back. what if he was waiting for you?"
"well he wasn't, so."
"what if he was?" he insisted.
"then i'd have turned him to ash again, what's the big deal?"
"i almost lost you once and i don't want to do it again."
i bit my lip and breathed through my nose.
"Don't do that, i'm the one who's annoyed."
i breathed in through my nose.
"Preston. i love you, and that's why i have to go away now."
i turned.
"you have a nice ass." he said.
i stopped and smiled.
when i heard him coming i wiped the smile off and my face became blank.
"what's wrong?" he asked.
"what do you mean."
"you look empty."
i narrowed my eyes at him.
he took my face in his hands and kissed me.
i could never stay mad at him when he kissed me and he knew it. damn have to be with him, jaded curse.
he pulled back and smiled.
"that's not fair." i whispered, trying to keep my breathing even.
"life isn't fair."
i pushed him against the wall, and kissed his neck.
"your right." i pulled back and smiled.
"Preston don't you dare!"
he scooped me up.
"Put me down damn it!" i laughed.
he carried me down the hall.
once i noticed he wasn't going to drop me, i stopped fighting.
he kept his eyes forward, and i stared at his face.
"why are you staring at me?" he asked not looking at me.
"how do you know?"
"i can feel it."
i rested my head on his shoulder.
when we got back to the party he set me down.
after the party, i took a shower washing off all the makeup.
Marla waited by the curtain, pacing.
"i'm almost done."
she barked not amused.
she could be so impatient, but i new it was cause, i took off with out her.
she could be over protective sometimes. it was strange how i could understand her.
yet again wolf is a Pure Vanity Vampire's best friend, and protector.
So why did i need Tie again?
i changed into Robby's Plaid Pj pants and Preston's shirt.
"there they are!" Robby said coming up behind me.
"You can't have them back, i'm using them."
"But i miss them!"
"i know, they're comfy."
i kissed him, and went to my room.
"there you are." Evelon said, as i came in.
"Here i am."
"i thought you'd be sleeping with Preston."
"no." i said.
"i told Tatum she could sleep with me."
"okay, bye."
"are you mad?"
"nope. come on Marah."
when i got to his bedroom he was gone, so i went to sleep.
i woke up when someone sat down.
"i like finding you in my bed."
i rolled over.
"go away." i mumbled.
"it's my bed." he laughed.
"then go to sleep."
his shoes hit the floor.
"leave your shirt on."
" how do you know i was going to take it off?"
"you always take it off, since you've been working out."
he got into bed.
he slowly kissed my neck.
"stop it." i smiled.
"your not still upset with me are you?"
"i'm very upset."
"why?" he asked, kissing my temple.
