Chapter 1

Melody and her brother, Shade, were playing outside in the cool spring air. The birds suddenly stopped chirping, and a black fog came from the trees in the forest surrounding their house. They ran inside and told their mother what's going on.    "Melody, Shade, go up there and don't come out until I tell you to. Block your doors when you get in them." She said sternly. They ran into their separate rooms and Melody pushed her dresser against her door. She went over to her walk-in closet and climbed up to the top shelf. She hid behind her hanging clothes as banging and crashing went on downstairs. She heard footsteps come up the stairs and heard her brother's scream. Everything went quiet.

Melody woke up with a jolt.    "Bad dream?" A voice said.   "Yeah...the same one I've been having for weeks. I'm glad your here Christian. You make me feel better." Melody smiled at the figure standing in her doorway.   "I will always be here for you Mel." He walked over and put his arms around her, holding her close.   His chest is so muscular, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world but here.

Christian must have known what she was thinking, because a smile splayed across his face.

"How about we go to the lake today? Just you and me. It's supposed to be nice out today." Cristian said, running his hands through Melody's gold hair.
