“No, I…” Hade grumbled uncertainly.
Every cybernetic reveler on Nemisys’ Hover Cube was now watching the exchange between Hade and Nemisys with rapt fascination. A noble Pandemonian from a notable Incorporare family would never turn down a bet with a member of Incorporare Imperius, even if they couldn’t afford to lose the Kilobits. The loss in reputation would cost far more in the long run.
“What then, Hade?” Nemisys pressed. “Name your price.”
“Synnestra!” Hade blurted.
“Synnestra?” Nemisys chuckled in surprise. “She’s not yours to offer, Hade. You can’t wager Synnestra.”
“But you can!” Hade barked.
Synnestra giggled her surprise.
Nemisys silently and sedately ran a number of elite strategic economic algorithms for several thousand microseconds before saying, “If I offer up Synnestra, and you lose, Hade, then you will pay me… one hundred Pandemonian Terabits.”
Every carnal reveler gasped in disbelief at the princely sum.
Synnestra gasped pridefully to know she was valued so highly.
Boltus Maximus gasped in rusty despair.
“Have we a deal?” Nemisys asked.
Hade was at a loss for words.
The Pandemonian Kilobit was the basic unit of currency on Pandemon. To an Earthling like Tim Pittwell, it was similar in value to the US Dollar or the Euro. Nemisys’ initial wager of 10 million Kilobits was a gigantic amount of money for the average no-name Pandemonian citizen to waste on a meaningless bet. But it was an amount Boltus Maximus could easily afford to cover when the situation called for it. This situation certainly did. But 100 Terabits was another matter entirely. It equaled 100 billion Kilobits. Calling it a princely sum was an understatement of exponential proportions.
Here on Pandemon, 100 Terabits equaled 100 princely sums.
Boltus repressed a rusty squeal. 100 Terabits was an amount he could not afford to lose. Nor could he afford to lose his financial reputation if Hade backed out of this enormous bet without good reason. Such a scandal would ruin Incorporare Maximus.
Hade mulled it over, grinding his knightly grill. He too knew what was at stake.
“You don’t need Synnestra, creation!” Boltus argued hastily but quietly. “I can build you a better bride than that rusty pipeline! She’s a corroded bore hole, Hade! You know that! She’s no good! She’s worthless!”
Hade’s eyes fired with rage. “One more negative word about Synnestra and I’ll…”
Even though Boltus was substantially more massive than Hade, he backtracked on his centank tracks and pleaded, “You don’t need her, creation! Accept Nemisys’ last offer of thirty million Kilobits! He’ll agree to it! I can afford to lose thirty million! I can’t afford to lose 100 Terabits or our Incorporare’s reputation!”
Hade was ready to chew the horns off his father’s horned helmet. Instead, he shouted at Nemisys, “I’ll wager ten Zalaxian whores!”
“Ten?” Nemisys snorted. “Where did you find ten Zalaxian whores? Off-planet Exiles, no doubt.”
“No,” Hade growled. “Ten Zalaxian whores fresh from the Royal Palace!”
“You exaggerate,” Nemisys snorted and finished off his Kurkullan silicone before tossing the empty Stygian crystal glass over the side of his Hover Cube. It crashed onto the deck of a much smaller Hover Cube below. When the annoyed owners saw it was Nemisys Imperius who had done the inconsiderate tossing, they sniveled impotently and said nothing.
“No!” Hade snarled at Nemisys. “I speak truth! Ten of King Sekton Darkstar’s finest concubines!” Hade knew he was overpromising. He knew Baron Crewd von Bludlust would claim every palace whore for himself after the siege was complete. Crewd wouldn’t let Hade have one whore, let alone ten. But Hade couldn’t help himself. This was Synnestra they were wagering for, not some two-Kilobit cybernoid data whore.
“How do I know you’re good for it?” Nemisys asked. It was the highest insult one noble Pandemonian citizen could level at another: questioning their credit.
The carnal revelers gasped again.
It was also an insult Boltus Maximus couldn’t ignore. His centank engine revved loudly and he roared, “I’LL STAKE MY FORTUNE ON IT! MY ENTIRE EMPIRE!”
Nemisys said thoughtfully, “Ten Zalaxian Palace concubines for me if the Aught army wins the day?”
“YES!” Hade barked, practically sweating red hot bolts of rage. “IF THE NAUGHTS WIN, I GET SYNNESTRA!”
“Deal,” Nemisys smiled victoriously. “And if the Aughts win,” he warned with sinister charm, “and you don’t deliver my ten palace concubines, Hade, I will take ownership of your family’s entire Incorporare, and your father’s Cybertronic Conversion Factory and everything else on Pandemon with the Maximus logo on it.”
Boltus Maximus belched a big cloud of sickly black smoke from his open-pipe engine. His centank treads squeaked fearfully as he rolled slightly back and forth.
Hade whipped his white plasma tail in agitation.
Synnestra wasn’t sure what to think, but she looked excruciatingly beautiful doing it.
Nemisys started counting his winnings. Ten Zalaxian Palace Concubines were worth several times more than 100 Terabits on the open market. He knew a few ITAP Magistrates who would gladly pay 50 Terabits for one. That was twice the price Nemisys had paid to buy Synnestra’s favor and jack into her trunkline whenever he pleased.
To a human like Tim Pittwell, $25 billion for a cybernoid sex slave like Synnestra might seem steep, but she had throughput like you wouldn’t believe. Throughput for days.
—: Chapter 63 :—
“DESTROY THEM!” Hade roared as a platoon of black Naughts ambushed a platoon of white Aughts, bursting from behind a large Battle Cube as the Aughts passed unawares. The Naughts hammered them relentlessly with bolt fire and plasma blades.
“Destroy them all!” Boltus gonged agreeably. His grim helmet grill suggested a hateful smile as he rooted for Hade’s team to win.
Creator and creation exchanged a brief look of respectful camaraderie before Hade cast a hateful sneer toward Nemisys where he stood watching the action from his extravagant Hover Cube.
“The battle isn’t over yet,” Nemisys said casually and sipped liquid Kurkullan silicone from a new Stygian crystal glass, then he stole a possessive kiss from Synnestra.
Hade sneered.
