finally stopped, I heard muffled screaming and the lady knocked on a door. It creaked as it opened. The scent of fresh roses and cigar smoke wafted into the hall.

“Your Excellency . . . I have the sister you wanted to meet.”

The sister? Why does he want to meet me?

The squealing and screaming was louder as soon as the door opened and the lady took my elbow to lead me in toward the sounds. I heard the smacking of skin against skin and knew someone was getting fucked brutally. I could practically smell the sex and sweat—olfactory reminders of all my sins with Crucifix. The girl was crying out and the man’s thrusts were hard against her body.

What was that swoosh? A cane?

“Do you want to come? I don’t think you deserve it. Do you?”

I almost answered, but then the girl said no through gritted teeth.

“I think you need to return to your room and think about it. Think about how I’m going to hurt you later. It’ll be deliciously painful, I assure you. Now, you’re going to kneel to use that mouth. Don’t forget to kiss the ring, slut. Say the rosary, five Hail Marys, and ten Our Fathers”

The Bishop didn’t care that I knew he was having sex with some girl, much less in front of an audience of at least two. Brazen. There was fast movement and stifled sound as he did what I assumed was fucking her face. A few moments later, the noise stopped and I heard what I thought sounded like a body being pushed to the floor. The girl?

“Lieutenant Colonel Cooke, would you do me the pleasure of returning SNAFU to her room?”

The military too?

Please, God . . . allow me one selfish prayer. Please make it quick.

I heard the women scurrying away and a hissing sound followed by the scent of a newly lit cigar filled the air. Father Lombardi?

“Welcome to Rosethorne, Sister Fiona. You are a very special guest here tonight. Unique, you might say.” He walked slowly and leaned over my shoulder into an ear. Then, he whispered, “You are the oldest virgin we have in attendance. That pussy should be quite valuable indeed. How did such an incredible flower make it so far in life without being . . . plucked?”

I tried to move away from him, but he was large and imposing. It was like I was stuck to the floor. All I could answer came in a whisper. “Faith and devotion, your Excellency.”

He stepped back and a barely audible chuckle came from behind me. Then he was in front of me and back in my ear. “Well, sister . . . if you are indeed a virgin . . . verified by my physician . . . then you will make me a large sum of money tonight. All I’ll ask of your buyer is to be the second to be inside your freshly picked petals. After all, I did give him the honor of making his purchase at my estate.”

I was shaking more than I had during the entire time the guard was abusing me, and the scent of the roses was starting to work its way into my brain with his words. I thought I might be sick.

All I am is a rare flower in his garden.

“You can go now, sister. Lieutenant Colonel Cooke will be back to escort you to the waiting room.” I heard the sound of a wheeled chair being moved and sat in and then his voice again. “Just think, I might find you a worthy asset for my personal collection. Wouldn’t that be wonderful, sister?”

I was grateful to hear the door open and the woman’s voice.

“Just think, sister. No answer required. I’ll see you soon enough.”

Those words rang in my head as I followed the woman to a new place—the waiting room. I’d be thinking and waiting for the man I just met. The Bishop who might kill me.

Make it quick, God.

The Longest Day of My Life

It’d been hours and I was goin’ fuckin’ crazy waitin’ to find out what was gonna happen. The Bishop said three hours, and he didn’t seem like a man who’d be late for anything.

“Hey, yank . . . ya gonna make it? Ya know I got your six. Bish ain’t gonna do ya wrong. He’s on our side and I’d stake my life on that.”

I tried to hold my shit and threw FOCUS a half smile. “Yeah, bro’ . . . I’ll be alright. Your guy’s gonna be ready to rock-n-roll soon. I’ll start to go off if he’s late. What the fuck could be takin’ so long?”

“It hasn’t even been three hours yet. The Bishop guy said the auction would be goin’ off in three . . . after hearin’ FOCUS’ stories all these years and then talkin’ to Blitz, I got a good feelin’ he’s shootin’ straight.” Casket walked over to the wet bar and nudged me on the way. “I still can’t believe you dragged us all the way up here for that bad fuckin’ habit. Only your crazy ass would fall in love with a nun.”

Gingersnap was more than a nun—she was my nun. I’d done and would do a lot of fucked-up shit, but I took responsibility for her the moment I punched my cock through that cherry. I took on the job of her protector from the moment I saw that pretty red hair and those freckles. She wasn’t just a nun—not by a long shot.

As I was sittin’ there with a bouncin’ leg and knuckles that’d been cracked fifty too many times, the door opened and in walked Bish.

“Hope you’ve been comfortable, gentlemen. I’m sorry about the delay, but it couldn’t be avoided. The auction is still going off as planned and on
