Once the bright flash disappeared, I looked toward the source of the sound and my heart skipped a beat when I saw the item we'd been tasked with retrieving. A beautiful crystalline blue flower had sprouted from the frozen ground, its petals reflecting what little light passed through the heavy snow-laden clouds.
Item: Ice Crystal Lotus
Type: Magic Item
Durability: 1200/1200
Grade: C Grade
Weight: 4st.
Description: A flower that grows in very specific cold climates. A fully bloomed lotus will generate a soothing sound if a spell is directed at it, making all conflicts seem trivial. For this reason, the flowers have long been used to lower rising tensions during conflict negotiations. Faeries hold this flower in great esteem since it symbolizes the strive for perfection through physical persistence.
"There it is!" I screamed and pointed forward. "The quest item."
"We can't reach it," Rory shouted in return. "We need to move around them yetis so we have all our enemies on one side."
"You run forward," I said placing Louie on the floor. "Open a path where Rory says, and I'll meet you there."
"Wait," Louie said, but started casting the spell all the same. "Stay within healing reach."
I nodded, and as soon as the path was open I sprinted away from them and toward the flower. The yetis didn't seem to notice me, so I was able to pluck the flower without any problems.

I mentally accepted the quest as soon as my mind had absorbed the information and a deafening splash echoed around me. A bright blue light illuminated the sky. I jumped up to see what the flash was all about and my eyes barely reached above the snow. A portal had opened on the other side of the top of the mountain finger, right in front of where my party was headed.
However, during the fraction of a second I was able to see through the snow-fence, I noticed that the giant had finally caught up to us. His hulking body wasn't quite as tall as the beasts we'd seen in the gorge the day before but his muscles, and especially his weapon, were nothing to joke about. The guy was holding a fucking tree like it was a baseball bat. And he had seen me.
I rushed back to the spot where I split from my party, hoping I'd reach the intersection of pathways before the hungry, recently-awoken giant. I pushed my freezing legs to their absolute fullest capacity and was soon taking the turn to my party again. They stood looking back at me, while the portal had moved even closer to them.
"Get in!" I shouted. "I'm right behind you."
The moment the last word escaped my mouth, all the air was forced from my lungs. A rock perfectly sized for my chest bounced violently off me and then landed in the snow, moments before I dropped to the ground next to it.
"Alex!" Rory shouted as Louie cast a healing spell on me. "Watch out, half-Celt!"
The dwarf was looking right above me, his face with worry, while Leo was still deflecting stones with his shield. I turned to see what Rory was looking at and immediately understood the reason for his expression. The giant was bringing his tree of a club down on me.
Instinctively, I rolled over to the side, my face stinging as rough snow and ice scratched it. That pain, however, was nothing compared to what I would have felt had I not moved away as the giant hit the ground, causing a small earthquake.
I picked myself up as fast as I possibly could and ran toward my friends who were now almost ready to enter the portal, which had moved closer to the edge of the cliff they'd reached. I waved at them to move on while trying to avoid the hail of stones thrown at me by the yetis. I never was particularly fond of running in cold temperatures, but I guessed there was something about survival that made a man change his tastes.
"Go!" I shouted at them to get into the portal as I was getting closer.
They each walked into the portal right before it moved off the cliff edge, though Louie waited until I was almost upon them in case I need to be healed. Ten steps before I was able to enter the portal and join my friends in whatever hell awaited us on the other side, disaster struck.
More precisely, a yeti struck. Me. On my back.
I stumbled forward with renewed speed but I couldn't stay on my feet. Instead I ended up faceplanting into the snow. Still, I scrambled forward. Even if the giant was right on top of me now, I was too close to give up.
I risked a glance behind me and realized that the giant had not only caught up with me, but he was also bringing down his weapon again. For the second time, I rolled to the side and picked myself up to resume my run. The moving portal was already a few feet away from the edge, with nothing but jagged rock below, but I had no option other than to lunge at it.
Strangely, the yetis had stopped catapulting rocks at me and it wasn't until I felt the chilling aura around the giant's hand that I understood why. The raid boss had reached me and was in their line of fire.
I gathered what little power I had left in me and channeled it to my legs, dashing at
