For the thousandth time,Roxanne wished heâd ditch them. His baby blues rivaled JakeGyllenhaalâs.
âIf youâre soskittish about online dating, why sign up? Youâve never had anissue meeting men.â
True. With her Coke-bottlesize-twelve curves, gregarious personality and confidence equivalentto a she-lionâs, Roxanne never had trouble meeting men. Justnot the right man. Silently cursing how well he knew her, Roxannepulled on her earlobe.
âRoxieâŠâLeo coaxed.
She wanted to squirm.Talking to a guy with a Mensa-certified I.Q. of one hundred andfifty-one about needing more variety in your sex life seemed sotrivial. âYou donât want to hear the boring details.â
âTry me,â hereplied, relaxing back into the booth.
Roxanne caught his gaze andheld it. âNo judgments?â
âHave I ever judgedyou?â
Actually, no. Despite allthe tomfoolery sheâd committed over the years, Leo had alwaysbeen tolerant.
âIâm hornierthan a private during Marine Week.â She sighed dramatically. âIhavenât had sex inââ
âEight months, threedays andâŠâ Leo glanced down at his watch. Roxanne hadgiven him the titanium timepiece for landing his first client severalyears ago. âSixteen minutes and forty-five seconds.â
Roxanne wrinkled her nose tokeep from laughing. âYouâre exaggerating the minutes andseconds.â Leaning forward, she pulled the sugar shaker towardher and fingered the rim. âI guess Iâve over shared onetoo many times.â
Leo inched his index fingertoward his thumb. âIâm this close to handing out âGetRoxanne Laidâ campaign buttons.â His perfectly timedhumor made Roxanne chuckle. âJokes and horniness aside,âhe continued, âI believe the âwhyâ is moreimportant than the âhow longâ.â
Damn heâs good!Roxanne sat back, wavering between confession and mule-headedsecrecy. She drummed her polished nails against the chrome tabletop, trying to buy herself some time. But LeoâsI-can-outlast-you-any-day look obliterated her game plan. âMysex life is missing something.â
âMissing what?â
Roxanne glanced at theteen-pop crowd again. âActually, my sex life is abysmal,âshe muttered.
Leoâs eyebrows juttedabove the frames of his black spectacles. âHow abysmal?â
âBlack-hole, DeepImpact abysmal.â
Leo rubbed his hand over hismouth and regarded her with what looked like disbelief. âDeepImpact?â Roxanne nodded. âWell, I wasnât expectingthat. Not from the poster girl for young, black and fabulously singlein the Windy City. Up until several months ago, you ran through menfaster than the NFL draft.â
Roxanne winced. She hadnâtbeen that free with the milk, had she? âYou make me sound likea two-piece-chicken-and-biscuit whore.â
Leo chuckled. Theyâdcome up with the term in college to define all the co-eds whoâdput out for the cheap two-dollar meal from Rayâs Bar-B-Que, apopular late-night hangout.
âYou know Iâvealways followed the motto, whatâs good for the goose is goodfor the gander.â His voice dropped an octave. âSo, let meget this straight. You stopped having sex because whoever was doingit to you wasnât doing it for you?â
Roxanne smiled. Leo had sucha way of putting things. âAll of them gave it their best. Ithink they were just tooâŠâ Roxanne paused, hunting forthe right word to describe her whitewashed sex life.
âVanilla?â
Roxanne rapped her knucklesagainst the table and Leoâs eyebrows rose another inch. Anyhigher and theyâd blend into his hairline. âJessina saysI need a take-charge kind of guy. A macho man whoâll push me tothe edge, make me beg for it.â
During her sexualconfessional, Leoâs expression grew increasingly pensive. Asthe seconds of complete silence stretched between them, Roxanneâsinsides twisted. For someone who considered herself a sexual being, her lack of a decent sex life made her feel a little inadequate.
âIf youârelooking for what I think youâre looking for, youârewasting your time on a traditional dating website.â He slippedout of the booth and moved to her side, sliding in next to her. âYouneed to go directly to the source,â he continued, swiveling hislaptop around to face them.
With a few quick strokes anda click of the mouse, he pulled up a website with a black backgroundand deep red fonts. The site had the prerequisite smiling couple asits blissful mascot.
Instead of the innocenthugging pose, the man wore a half-mask and lay handcuffed to aplatform bed while his female companion stood over him with a braidedflogger.
âWhipADate.com?âshe whispered, unable to tear her eyes away from the computer screen.âWhy have I never heard about this?â
âYouâre vanilla, remember?â Leo maneuvered the cursor over the member profilelink and clicked enter.
âOh my,â Roxannebreathed as a portal unlike any sheâd ever seen unfolded on thescreen.
âWhat are those?Sexual fantasies?â she asked, pointing to a sidebar withscrolling text.
âMember testimonialsof fantasies fulfilled.â
Roxanne sat forward. Hereyes devoured a catalogue of member photos featuring full-frontalnudity, skin pinched with wooden clothespins, limbs entwined in ropeand chains, and mouths stretched with rubber balls.
âYouâve got tobe kidding me,â she murmured aloud and then shook her head. Itwas one thing to talk shit, quite another to walk the walk.
âEverything on thissite is real and hardcore. And youâd better be as well, or atleast serious about your intentions, because the membership has atendency to out those who are simply window shopping. If they do,youâre dead in the water and youâll be using yourvibrator for another eight months.â
Roxanne stiffened. She andLeo discussed pretty much everything, but never the most intimatedetails of their sex lives.
âYouâve neverused a sex toy, have you?â
Groaning loudly, Roxanne satback. âItâs confirmed, Houston. Iâm vanilla.â
Leo drummed his fingers onthe keyboard. âAre you sure youâre ready for this? Do youthink youâll be able to let someone else bend you to theirevery whim?â
She might not have asubmissive bone in her body, but for some reason the idea of beingcompliant to someone elseâs every wish and command pulled atsomething deep inside her.
âYou know, thereâsa more sensible alternative.â
âThere is?âRoxanne hated that she sounded so eager.
Leo nodded. âYou couldstart out slow with someone you know. I thinkââ
âOnly one problem,âshe interjected. âIâve never backtracked, and Iâmnot dating anyone currently.â
Leoturned toward her and propped his arm on the back of the booth. Whenhis thigh brushed against hers, Roxanne didnât think anythingof it. While in college, theyâd often slept in the same bed. However, when Leo didnât say anythingâŠjust sat therestaring at herâŠshe started to fidget.
âI donât wantyou to do this with anyone else, Roxie. I want to introduce you.â
Roxanne slapped his thigh.âHa ha, good one!â
Thinking nothing else of hisproposal, she picked up her half-eaten red velvet cupcake and took abite. Too bad the dessert didnât come with a dick. The mix ofchocolate
