Practicing swords clashed loudly in the background as she milled around the bailey looking for her lord. He was certain to convince her father to give her to him, and soon they would be married. Just in time, since she would soon be starting to show. From behind her strong arms encircled her waist, and she turned about to find the wrong face staring into hers. She tried desperately to free herself as she realized the castle was lost, but there was nowhere to run. This man, whoever he was, now owned her. It was the way of her world.


This was supposed to be her wedding day but he was nowhere to be found. But the groom was there, looking nervous and uncertain, as uncertain as she felt. Why was she concerned with the best man more than her potential husband? Why had she allowed herself to fall in love? Suddenly she heard the clatter of a horse's hooves, and her dream lover arrived to sweep her up into his arms and whisk her away to the land of bliss. But that was all this was, it was just a dream. Her bed was just as empty as ever.


The roar of engines pounded his ears as he navigated the asteroid field with deft precision. He wanted to get back home, back to his lovely wife and their three small children. She had almost left him more than once, and he would not let that happen. The thought broke his concentration and a huge rock battered the side of his vessel, bringing his thoughts back to the present. He could see the dead, gutted mother ship hovering just beyond this last stretch of rock. He turned into the next one, and let it take him back where he belonged.
