The Escape
Cars are speeding forward like a shooting star. In the morning the snow roughly begins to fall on our faces. Abandoned, looking for shelter, food, and water. My older sister, Jennifer, says helplessly “We have been walking for three days now!”
“Don’t get so discouraged, I know someone will take us in, you’ll see.” Says my second oldest sister, Lucy.
As we keep walking a women in a gray car speeds as if she’s in a big hurry. She parks her car and gets out but she’s walking very slowly because she is staring at us. Her face looked very worried and then she came running towards us.
She told us "You all need to come inside now, it's getting way too cold out here." We took her offer. As we go inside her house, we entered the living room. She has two old couches, sitting on each of the couch is her two black cats. On the right of us is the dinner table and then further down is the kitchen. Straight from us is the green wallpapered hallway where there is a door with a huge red spot at the bottom of it.
The women saw me looking at it then she said " My name is Dianne. What's your's?"
Jennifer pointed to each of us and said our names, the youngest Elizabeth, the second youngest is Lucy, and i'm Jennifer, the oldest.
"Nice to meet you." Dianne said as she smiled. "You all can sit down while I warm you up some potato soup." As she started going to the kitchen we sat down and talked if we were going to stay or not. We decided to stay for a couple of days. When Dianne came back with our food she accidentally spilled it all on Jennifer. Jennifer went to the bathroom to go wash up, while Lucy and I ate our potato soup.
“Do you have family members?” Asked Jennifer as she came out of the bathroom.
“I used to, my husband got shot 5 years ago and my daughter had cancer 3 years ago, they both died.”
“I’m so sorry for your loss.” Said Lucy.
Dianne smiled and said “Thank you. I’ll go make your beds.” When Dianne left the room we had a little family meeting.
Jennifer whispered “ We are not staying for a couple of days, infact we may not even spend the night here.”
Lucy also whispered “Why? What’s wrong?”
“I’ll tell you what’s wrong, Don’t you see that door back there that has a huge red spot on the bottom of it? That could have been her husband’s blood that she could've shot him.” whispered Jennifer.
“Calm down I think you're over exaggerating. The new paint is probably coming of and the old paint is perhaps red.” said Lucy.
“I don’t think I wanna stay here.” Said Jennifer.
“Fine you can leave and Elizabeth and I can stay here!” Yelled Lucy
“Shhh!” said Jennifer. Two minutes later Dianne came in telling us that our room was ready. As we go inside our room, the walls are blue with green poke-a-dots. There is two full beds and one tiny mattress on the floor. As I step inside I noticed that the floor is a dark and rosy hardwood. We find our beds and fall asleep. Four hours later I hear a noise coming from the basement. I get up and start to find Lucy in the dark. I accidently tripped over the black cat and fell towards Jennifer’s bed where it laid empty. I start to tip toe towards Lucy’s bed, I find her and wake her up saying
“Lucy, wake up. Wake up!” I shook her about three times before she got up. “Jennifer’s gone and I heard a noise coming from downstairs.” I whispered.
“Who cares if she’s gone. You were probably just dreaming, go back to bed.” Lucy said as if she’s falling back to sleep.
I was probably just dreaming I say to myself. I didn’t want to go back over to my mattress on the floor so I just slept in Jennifer’s bed hoping for her to come back.
At 4:45 A.M is when I decided to leave this nightmare. It’s going to be sad to leave my two sisters behind but it’s the right thing to do. I leave from my bed I grab my stuff and head out of our room. I try to go to the front door but I saw Dianne asleep in the living room, the cat is in front of the door starting to meow. I’m tip toeing back, I see the door with the huge red spot on the bottom. I go inside, I turn on my flashlight and head for downstairs looking for a way to escape. When I get to the end of the stairs, there’s six brown boxes and a rocking chair in the dark corner. I see there is two small windows but I can’t get through them. Then I see the cellar door that goes outside and I knew that was my way to escape. As I hear cracks from upstairs I knew Dianne was awake. I go to the rustic cellar door but it’s locked with chains around the handles. I hear footprints coming closer and closer to the door. And finally she opens it, I try to hide as quickly as possible but there’s nowhere to hide. She’s at the bottom of the stairs and looks around, “Jennifer? Are you down here?”
I’m hoping she will understand, “ I’m right here.” I say helplessly.
“Why are you down here?” Dianne said as if she’s getting mad.
I said “ I’m looking for a way to escape.”
“Come here now.” And so I did but I didn’t know what would happen next until I was lying on the floor helplessly with my blood everywhere.
As Dianne wakes us up in the morning and asks “Where is Jennifer?”
“She probably just left” said Lucy with a snotty attitude.
“Hopefully she is alright. I made you both breakfast.” Lucy and I are racing each other to the kitchen, but Lucy wins because she pushed me out of the way. “Yummy” I say.
“Guess what today is?”
“Sunday?” Lucy said with confusion.
“Yes, but it’s my birthday!” Dianne said with excitement.
“Happy birthday!!” We both say
“Thank you. I will be having a birthday party in a little bit, there will be lots a people.” Dianne said.
Dianne was right there was a lot of people here.
“I miss Jennifer!” I say.
“I know I do too.” Lucy said as she gave me a hug. “Hey you know what would cheer you right up? Hide and go seek!” said Lucy.
“Yay!” I say cheerfully.
“I’ll go count while you hide” said Lucy. After she said that I went to go hide and then I saw the door that must lead to the basement, I went in.
I turn on the light so I could see without tripping down the stairs but as soon as I turned on the light I saw blood everywhere.
I couldn't imagine this happening until I see Jennifer’s body right by a huge puddle of blood. I screamed as loud as I could so that Lucy could hear me while the party is going on. Lucy came through the door.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
I pointed at Jennifer’s dead body.
Lucy grabbed me close and covered my eyes.
“We need to get out of here now.” Said Lucy. We came up the stairs and went outside the front door as Dianne was opening her presents. We pretended to play tag for 20 minutes so that Dianne thought we would only be doing that and after she left the couch to go to the bathroom we started to run for the police station. It was only ¼ mile till we got there. When we got there we told the officer what had happen, at first he didn’t believe us at all. Later he said that he was going to check it out.
An hour has passed, they had left to go to Dianne’s house. We couldn’t leave the police station because the police were going to put us in a orphanage home. The officer came back with Dianne who he had arrested. They found us an orphanage home to go into.
There were three other kids there, I knew it was going to be hard but I also knew that I was going to get through it with my sister.
