and got down on all fours. Setting its sights for the lit up stadium, the creature growl in anger. The Aspen would not get away with taking his body. With another large leap, the creature landed right in front of the gates. Many people hadn’t noticed the monster yet, but they soon would. It pushed and shoved its way through the crowd until it finally saw its enemy leaning against the railing with a smile on his face.
Jason hadn’t felt it coming at all. The air was cool and the smell of popcorn drifted through the air. He felt heat signatures all around him. He turned to his girlfriend and smiled as he looked into her eyes. She smiled back at him. She was thinking about how they could be together forever and it still would go by too fast. Jason heard a loud noise behind him and glanced back to see what made it. He got his answer when the dark fist uppercut Jason over the railing.
It all happened in slow motion for Jason. As he got hit, he felt no pain at all. He realized exactly what it was the moment it made contact. It was his own dark Quixon energy. The voice that had spoken to him, insisting that he hurt instead of save was free. It had manifested into its own being and was back for Jason’s blood. The anger inside the Quixon came out as he smacked his foe through the air.
When the dark creature hit Jason, Sarah had been looking into his eyes. She watched as the love of her life was sent hurtling through the air and towards the field. All of the players were at the opposite touchdown zone. She screamed as the dark creature leapt up into the air, following its target. She felt empty inside, thinking her boyfriend was going to be killed by a monster.
Josh, Matt, and Tony all saw the dark creature attack Jason. They were frightened by what they were seeing, but at the same time wanted to help. As the monster leapt into the air, Josh went to react, but stopped himself. Would they just get in the way? They were strong, but their powers weren’t fully advanced yet. All three of them had the same thoughts. It pained them inside, but they just couldn’t do it. Jason wouldn’t have wanted them to get hurt in the first place.
As Jason flew backwards, he thought of his whole life. All the happiness and freedom from the dark he thought he had was all just an illusion. He collided with the soil of the field and threw dust and dirt into the air. The Quixon landed about thirty yards from him. The players and the people in the stadium started to see what was happening and began to panic. The players and coaches ran from the field as the alien death match unfolded. The beast was breathing heavily, waiting for Jason to get up.
When Jason hit the ground, he felt no pain. He was just lying there, thinking about it all as it happened. The attack had done a lot of damage, whether he felt it or not. It weakened his body and gave him a disadvantage. But all Jason could think to himself was that he needed to protect. He couldn’t safely fight this thing. Not around all of these people. He would have to end this fight quickly if he didn’t want anyone harmed. He was trying to stand up, but couldn’t. Something was happening inside. It wasn’t the darkness…it was something much more pure. He could feel the power he’d felt months ago flowing back into him. When Jackson first attacked him, the mysterious power had given him strength to fight back. That power had returned out of nowhere. It was his chance to end this.
Jason walked out of the dust and grazed at the darkness. It roared and ran towards him. With a reared back fist, it threw a punch right at Jason. Although the creatures fist was a lot large than Jason’s, he held up his hand and caught the punch in his hand. The monster struggled against Jason’s incredible power, but couldn’t break free. The crowds of people that had been fleeing were beginning to notice what had happened. Their Savior was here for them, but they were beginning to worry for him. What would happen if the monster won? Some ignored this thought and continued to flee.
There were four who didn’t move at all. Josh, Tony, Matt, and Sarah all stood watching the fight unfold. Sarah gasped when Jason emerged from the dust alive. She could see his face for what it was. He had been the Savior the whole time. It all made so much sense to her. She was completely breathless. The guy she had fallen in love with was the one the world had been depending on to save them from perils. He was a superhero. And now, he was out there fighting for her again.
Jason twisted the beast’s arm, causing it to cry out in pain. He drove his knee up into its face, driving it upward. The beast flew up into the air a few feet before Jason jumped into the air. He cupped his hands together and slammed them down. The beast’s head whipped back towards the ground and dug into the soil. It growled and tried to get up. Jason knew what must be done. This beast could be beaten and beaten repeatedly, but it would constantly come back for more no matter what. Jason could feel power. He had to protect these people. It was his duty. He had to save them.
Jason flipped around behind the Quixon monster as it got up to its feet. He put a hold on the beast with his arms, preventing it from moving. He was on its back, holding in place with his unleashed power. It fought to break free, but was unsuccessful. Jason looked to the stand to see his family looking back at him. Josh, Matt and Tony looked as though they wanted to do something. They wanted to get out there and fight, but knew better. They were just not strong enough yet. Jason could hardly take on the creature on his own. He wished they could have helped…but it would have just been suicide.
He then turned to Sarah Williams. She was just as beautiful as the first time Jason laid his eyes on her. Her golden hair flowed through the wind giving her the appearance of a goddess. Her soothing blue eyes broke through to his soul. She looked back at him in awe of what he was. Jason thought she would be upset with everything. He thought she’d be scared of what he was, but in reality, she wasn’t scared at all. He stared into her heart. She was wearing her feelings all over her face. She had so many emotions pouring out, but the one that stood out to Jason was love. It was undeniable.
Jason thought back to the first time he had seen her close up. When she dropped all of her books and he looked into her dazzling blue eyes for the first time. He didn’t speak of it back then, but he knew at that moment that he would always love her. He remembered the dance where they had actually first shared those magical words of ‘I love you’ with one another. Their first kiss was elegantly unexplainable. The spark between them that night made everything else meaningless. Everything about Sarah Williams was amazing.
Jason could feel his heart break into two as he looked into Sarah’s eyes for the last time. He thought of their most recent kiss, now realizing it would be their last. He looked into her and she must have read his mind. The look of awe turned to a look of worry. She knew what he was going to do. All four of them did. Jason felt a tear tickle down his check as he closed his eyes. This was his goodbye.
Jason increased the heat around him and the darkness. It began to form a funnel up to the sky. The Quixon squirmed as he cried out in pain. The red and orange flames quickly turned to blue flames that were slowly burning the two of them away. Jason thought it would be painful to die. He thought it would happen quickly and be done. However, to his surprise it happened slow and painlessly. He watched as the Quixon’s body began to disintegrate away. He looked to his own shoulders and saw the same thing happening.
It was strange for Jason to see himself disappear from existence. His skin started to glow an orange and white color as his hands started to break away from his body. The heat intensified and Jason felt the tear on his check evaporate. This was his final moment. He thought of everything as it all passed before his eyes. He thought of his childhood and when he met his friends. He thought of the lessons of his Uncle Alfred. He remembered the pain of killing his own brother for a crime he didn’t do. He remembered the passion between him and Sarah. But lastly, Jason remembered the look of relief on the people of Holden City that he’d saved. He was ready to die as their Savior.

Into the Light

It had been three weeks. The weather outside had gotten cloudy and cold. Everyone in the world knew of what had happened on that fateful night. Those who were witness to Jason Shard’s sacrifice were thankful more than he would ever realize. Only a select few knew exactly who the Savior was. The world had been at a state of depression ever since the headlines wrote ‘Savior is no more’. The world had had him for such a small amount of time and needed him for so much longer. They wanted the young man to come back to them and help them through their troubled lives. They all felt confident enough to face their darkest hour, just knowing that the Savior was looking over them.
In everyone’s heart was pain, but there was also something more. A piece of him had found its way into all of their hearts. In a way, he was still alive in each and every human’s heart and soul. His heroic actions had set him apart from everyone else. When everyone else was ready to give in, he didn’t. There were rumors that had been sent by the heavens. Other said that was simply blessed by the gods. Very few believed that he had fallen from the stars, but they were actually right. A little more than sixteen years ago, he did fall from the sky.
The Aspen race was spoken of in a group of three friends from now and then. Mainly, they just spoke of their friend and how much they missed him. He was always the one who would help raise their spirits. Even before they knew of his greatest secret, Jason had helped them through their everyday issues. He was the greatest friend that Tony Servis, Matt Reynolds, and Josh King could have ever asked for. They still had their Halym powers, but refused to do anything but advance them in secrecy. Jason was the Savior, not them. They didn’t have what it took in their minds.
In weeks to come, Sarah Williams would leave school and sit alone at the coffee shop. She would sit there and look out the window at the sky. She needed her Savior to come down and help her. Her parents were still fighting like no tomorrow. Jason was the one who had helped her keep everything together. He was her savior before she even knew of his gift. She wasn’t sure exactly
