It only makes sense not to enter the forest.
A little ways in the forest, view of many shadows moving in a pack towards the mercenary group.
The mercenary group is a bit tensed by their situation, but they feel that it's safer not to enter through trees in front of them.
"Leader, you seem more tensed than the rest of us." Mercenary Jones says walking up to her.
"Jones. I just feel like something is about to happen." She tells him.
She peered suspiciously at the trees and couldn't take her eyes off the sudden glowing eyes that began to slowly appear in the darkness of the forest.
"Seems we aren't alone anymore. Everyone take arms, we're surrounded!" The mercenary leader withdrew her sword and stood.
Everyone else were already gathering and drawing their weapons as well.
The glowing eyes emerged from the trees revealing large blue fur wolves.
The wolves snarled and charged towards them.
"Here they come!" One of the mercenaries yell.
The minute they yelled that, the wolves were attacking mercenaries left and right.
While the levels of these damn dogs weren't any higher than 20, since they're in a pack like this the threat is much more higher.
She swung her long sword slicing clean through one of the wolves bodies.
A nearby blood curdling scream drew her attention to a nearby mercenary.
Damn, looks like one of the mercenary's didn't make it.
A body being attacked ferociously by a wolf was proof enough.
She took down another few wolves on her own. But it was clear that if they didn't do something here, they may lose someone else.
"Terra, use that!" Mercenary leader called out to a woman that plunged her dagger into the eye of a wolf.
Terra pulled something out and tossed it.
"Get back everyone!" Terra yells.
All those who survived rushed away as the object exploded.
The sounds of yelping and then the sight of the remaining wolves falling to the ground.
A poison gernade, it's quite effective and will kill in a small radius.
Thankfuly there hadn't been any wolves left.
"Leader, I don't think it'll be safe staying here." A mercenary says.
"Yeah." She agreed.
Even if the goal was to get them to enter they had no choice.
If they stayed here it's more possible to all get themselves killed.
The next time something attacks them it could be in their sleep.
That, she could not risk.
Perspective of Forest Boss
"Hmm, it seems to be going according to plan."
Veiw of a dark figure waiting patiently in a swamp a few kilometers from the wasteland's entrance.
"My mistress will be so proud of me." The figure chuckles excitedly into the darkness.
They'll reach the first part in the forest, if they're lucky they will stumble onto that cave with the protective barrier.
It's so fun watching these humans struggle.
To think that master set up points where the enemies could feel safe, even going so far as to have rewards to find.
"Baslisk, master wants you make sure that human with the long sword makes it to the wastelands." Hina says.
"Aww, I really wanted to play with that human . Well I'll do as the master wants." The figure says.
It's too bad, it would have been fun to see a woman human like that squirm.
Guesss it's only feesible to give that human to master to play with however she likes.
Inside the globe, there's a view of the mercenaries entering the forest after burrying their comrade.
Hopefully this group won't be too disappointing for master.
Vol 2 Ch 3: Spotted Lizards
A meeting set up in Armitis Kingdom
View of a long rounded table, with six powerful figures having a heated discussion.
"A group of mercenaries vanished in thin air after the appearance of a demon! Tell me how is that possible?!" King Sermell asked the six nobles sitting at the table.
"That really is strange, Your Majesty! The Magicians have never thought something like this could happen." Head Magician Perse Triflic says.
King Sermell slams his fist on the table causing the whole of it to shake slightly.
"That's you're excuse? Getting prepared for any type of danger is the grand rule of survival. I now have to put back my plan to find my son. Head Magician tract that thing and get a read on where it took those mercenaries." King Sermell points in the magician's direction before leaving the room.
The room was silent, "since this has nothing to do with me, I'm out of here." Count Ferchan says standing to leave as well.
"Same, I have some matters to attend to." Baron Vecca says following behind Count Ferchan.
There were four of the main figures left sitting at the table. These guys will most likely help once they find the loaction the mercenaries were sent to.
"Alright, I'll start tracking the dark magic." Head Magician announced. It was probably better to track from where the thing appeared.
But the magic would be too strong and cause interferrance, it's better to track from a distance.
He stood and started to draw a spell, this will help track the demon that took the mercenaries.
Traces of dark magic began to form, though it wasn't strong it was enough to form a map and mark a location.
"Woah, where is that?" Merchant Hanna asked taking a closer look.
"That place, there's no way anything is there, is just plains." Duke Manroot says with a frown.
The magic disappears, "well that's where it's pointing, but there seems to be a problem." Head Magician says.
"What?" Someone asked.
"While it is true we were able to track it, there seems to be something clouding that specific area. We won't be able to interfer." Head Magician says.
That's the feeling he got from trying to track.
Right now they had no choice but to wait and see what happens next. Something tells him that none of those mercenaries were coming back alive.
Since they are just some mercenaries, it shouldn't be a big deal. There's no need to get anyone's men involved.
Mercenaries Perspective
Things in the plains forest was getting more dangerous, so far five people had died and three were injured. With the way things are going, they will lose even more mercenaries.
The Mercenary leader wanted to find whatever was playing with them and wring its damn neck.
"What do we do, Leader? The three injured will drag us down." Mercenary Jameson says.
It's true that was the case, but there's no way she could leave them behind. It's still not clear on what type of boss monster that ruled this forest.
They were all at a disadvantage here.
"Leader, over there. There's something glowing!" A mercenary pointed due north where once could see a clearing between the trees.
"Everyone gather the injured and make it hastey. The faster we get to that glowing light the better!" The leader orders.
Everyone did as told gathering their supplies and two people each, took one of the three injured.
They made their way through the clearing of the trees towards the light.
There was no other choice, they are either heading towards a haven or their very deaths.
The trip towards the glowing light in the north was shorter than they all expected and luckily it was a place of healing.
"Are we lucky or what? For a healing river to be here, perhaps is there someone helping us?" One of the mercenaries asked.
The leader leans against a nearby tree, she couldn't help but think that this is just one of those things set up by whatever is in this forest.
"Let's keep our guards up." She says.
The other mercenaries looked at each other but they knew their leader was right.
She stared out into the trees, something didn't feel right. So far they have ran into wolves and largely sized shadow spiders.
It's been an hour since they ran into any other dangers, she couldn't help but think something big was going to happen.
"Hey, Leader. There's something strange in the water!" Mercenary Lilian says waving her over.
The leader walked over to the river to have a closer look at what Lilian had discovered.
Something was in the water it had a round shape and was clear.
She reached in and pulled out the item to take a closer look.
"Hm? What does leader think it is?" Mercenary Jameson asked looking over her shoulder.
She studied the round globe like item, there was something yellow with a bit of glitter inside.
It really was a strange item.
"Leader, we're surrounded!" A mercenary yells.
She glanced up in time to see that sure enough there were green spotted lizards coming from the trees.
They were medium in size and their spots were a bit yellow.
"Those definitely don't look friendly.
"Leader, I think you should put that round thing back down. I looked in that river and found thousands that look just like it throughout the river." Mercenary Timth says turning towards her and holding up several of the same round items.
What are the items the mercenaries stumbled across!?
Vol 2 Ch 4: Closer to the End
"Damn, could it be Lizard eggs?" The leader asked.
The Lizards that surrounded them hissed, it was clear their eyes were on the item in her hand.
"Leader, just give the egg to the damned lizard." A mercenary says.
No one dared take their eyes off the lizards.
"If I hand these eggs over, can you gaurentee that the lizard won't attack us?" The Leader asked.
It was that question that had everyone stumped.
What happens when they give back the eggs?
Will they really be out of danger?
Female Lead's Perspective
"It seems they're in quite the predicament." I say staring at the veiwing portal.
Next to me was Hina who had that child on her lap.
It's been four days since we brought the mercenaries to the forest and one by one they had began to die.
I didn't get sick or felt any sympathy for the death of these humans.
It's clear that I have changed drastically due to my demon lord form.
"Mistress, I would like to ask when will our guest arrive?" Hina asked
"It should be any day now. I only want at least five survivors to arrive." I pointed out.
The games had only just began. It wouldn't be any fun if they all died outside the fortress.
Another's Perspetive
"Oooh, the smell of fear has me feeling great! I'm so happy my Mistress gave me this wonderful task. Hurry up and arrive humans!" Baslisk says with a slight tremor in her tone.
She was getting impatient and wanted to see blood so badly.
It's too bad that she had to save that muscular human for her master, though.
"Those lizards got killed so easily, I wonder if the snakes will be able to kill any humans. There's still a lot of them left, at least fifteen. I'll be sure to kill a few of them before they
