"Good, you're doing very well." Aleera said
Gvera couldn't keep it up , the strings began to vanish.
"This is a lot harder than I thought." She admitted.
"Keep trying" Aleera said" I'm going to look for Will, he is taking too long to get back."
She drew a line in the ground about ten steps away from Gvera :
" Try to make crawl to here." She said and headed towards the forest.
Gvera tried but she couldn't get the hand to crawl, she could barely get it to move at all. Maintaining the flow of energy was physically painful, necromancy was much more demanding that wizard magic in terms of energy use. After her third attempt the girl felt exhausted and fell on the grass to rest for a bit.
She didn't have much time to rest. There was tension the air, an unfamiliar energy spread around. Gvera looked at the bracelet but it showed no signs of warning, but Gvera felt as if she was being watched.
"Aunt Aleera, is that you?" she called out.
There was a rusting in the trees but no one answered.
"Who's there?"
A loud howl echoed and a black creature jumped out from the trees. It had the head of a wolf but it's body was reptilian with a long spiky tail. It ran very fast.
"A death creature?" Gvera jumped to her feet and prepared to fight. She put her hand together, confident that she knew how to deal with it.
The girl dodged the first attack by jumping back and with waved of her hand wrapped the white treads around the monsters tail, but to her surprise it didn't start melting, the pale lines began to turn black and burn away where they touched the creature.
"No, way" Gvera couldn't believe it" Necromancy doesn't work on this thing. It's not a death creature? What the hell is it?"
She ran into the woods, the thing left her nowhere to run, it chased her but the girl got the feeling it was driving her, sometimes it would jump out from in front of her and force to change direction, sometimes would appear from the sides. Gvera lost track of how long she ran, she was without doubt deep in the woods and lost. The howling seemed to grow more quirt as if the monster had fallen behind. It was dark, the tall trees blocked out the sunlight, using her wizards magic she channeled a small ball of fire to see in the dark. The ground was descending into a crater, there were no pants on it, only dark ground. In the middle of that crater was large stone, it had a strange crimson color to it. As the girl began to approach the stone the monster returned and it was not alone . there were at least a dozen of them. Eyes glowing red in the dark and their howls began to sound more and more human. One of them, she was sure it was the one who chased before, approached her .
"Cross" the creature growled.
Gvera backed away until her back hit the stone. The monsters he surrounded the crater in a ring.
"What do you want from me?!" the girl screamed
The creature backed away and took its place in the ring with the others. They began howling but there was a pastern to it, almost like a song. The stone began to change, glowing symbols ran up and down and sideways. The symbols formed a window and in it Gvera could see people. Many different people, old and young, men and women, but they all had something in common. The first one was an elderly man standing on top of a mountain, he rose his hands into the air and turned into falcon, soaring above clouds, the second one was a boy holding a bow made of light and shooting arrows of fire and lightning, the third was an old man with grey robes a pointy hat walking down a country road with a staff in hand and a sword on his belt, the fourth one was a girl with short blue hair siting on a grave stone holding a skull, her eyes lit up and the skull opened it's mouth , the fifth was a city street and a blond girl was playing a flute , behind her a seas of rats followed .
The next five people were the same, one that could turn into animals, one that could control elements of nature with bows and arrows, one who could revive the dead, one who was a magician, and one who was a wizards. Now the image Gvera saw was of her father, Maldeius the wizards stood on a rocky coast surrounded by waves summoning the blue light of teleportation. The next person Gvera saw was that woman from her dream, she rode on a skeletal horse in some unseen place, white hair flowing behind her. Next she saw a man that bore a striking resemblance to her father but had much longer hair and beard, when he turned she saw a red cobra stitched on to his cloak. Next was an old woman with long hair, she turned into a cat and jumped up into tree. The last one was a man with brown hair, tall and muscular, he wore dark green robes and held a regular bow but the arrow he shot was of pure light.
And then Gvera saw herself, an image of herself fighting with a sword of white flame against several death creatures. Then she saw an image of Solean playing the flute. A little girl with pink hair turned herself into a rat, and a dark haired boy with a raven on his shoulder held a bow, the last one was boy with white hair and golden eyes casting spells. The images of people turned into symbols and positioned themselves into a shape of a pentagram: the spider up, top left the raven, top right the snake, bottom right the rat and the last one was an ermine. A glowing eye appeared at the center of the pentagram and it now became the symbol of the Order. Gvera stared at it speechless and unsure of what to make of this.
The glow slowly vanished and the stone returned to normal. The wolf- like creatures stood up on their hind legs and spoke all as one :
"The spider , the crow, the serpent, the rat and the ferret formed a union long ago and vowed to keep this world from drowning in flame. The time has come for that vow to be renewed, the vow still stand as long as ancient blood flows those chosen will rise to fight." The wolves fell silent and all as one dove into to woods leaving Gvera all alone.
"My father is a member of the Order" was the thought that came to her mind" but then so am I , and so is Solean. We and tree others are the new Order, we are the ones who have to stop the king from death? Five kids? We are supposed to save the world?"
All she could feel was crushing despair, there was nowhere left to run, no one to take the fight from them, now it was their fight. It was her fight.
Necromorphs Fire
Gvera walked following her Guide, but not really paying attention to anything. So much happened in such a short time, days seemed like years. It felt strange to the point where is almost seemed surreal. At first she thought it could turn into a fun adventure with a new friend, then things went grim and from there only got worse. Does Solean even know? She wondered how she could tell him, but was he really going to help her? Maybe he already went back home to Kalmer or boarded a ship to the west. Yesterday she had been so happy, having found her relatives and where she came from, but now that joy had all but diminished.
Lost in thought the girl somehow made it up the mountain. It was dark and probably very late, owls were out looking for food, stars shone in the clear sky, form high up it almost seemed like on could touch them. Aleera and Will were not asleep, they sat by the table and when she entered both turned heads towards her simultaneously.
" Gvera, where have you been?" Aleera stood up and walked towards her.
"I'm sorry" she said" I didn't mean to disappear like that, a creature chased me into the woods"
"A creature? What it looked like? Are you hurt?" Will asked
"I'm fine "
She described the thing that she saw and told them about the stone and the visions in it.
"Must have been a werewolf William said.
" I've heard there are some deep in the woods, in a place called the Hollow of Shadows, but they don't attack people ,usually."
Aleera looked deep in thought the whole time. Gvera hoped she would say something important and helpful but when she finally opened her mouth, she said:
"Well that must have been quite the adventure. Are you hungry?"
Gvera shook her head.
" Then of to bed, it's quite late"
She did feel quite tired so she went to bed with no objection. However sleep did not overcome her instantly. She heard whispers, hushed voices in the back of the cave.
"I still think it's a little unfair" she heard her uncle say.
"she is still too young for this"
"For the past sixteen years I was praying that our daughter would not become chosen, and just days ago she suddenly gets called away to the main house , alone. I thought it was the end of everything. Then the next day she turns up on our door step and now all of a sudden she's the chosen one."
"At least we don't need to worry about Deira anymore, besides she doesn't have the Power, it would make no sense for Deira to be it."
"The main reason I left the Cross clan was so that I don't have to get involved with this ancient mess, and now it seems like I have no other choice. But I can't teach her all the things she needs to know, I don't have the Power and Elvira has ignored my every summon for the past sixteen years, I don't know what to do."
"I'm sure Elvira felt the same way you do, she didn't want anything to do with this so she left and then hid Gvera somewhere safe, that's why she never told anyone about her in the first place."
"Her plan failed, Gvera is here and she is the member of the new Order, and a necromancer is on the loose, she is anything but safe." Aleera sighed.
"We will help her, right? She is Deiras cousin." Will insisted
"Yes, we will." She assured her husband
"Only, it's a little weird that they would be choosing new members for the order so soon, it's only been sixteen years ."
"Something must have happened. Maybe one of the old members died or something, doesn't really matter."
Died, the word echoed in Gveras head and her mind wandered to her father. How was he doing? Did he miss her? Did he knew about
