“Put these on Miss. Don’t question the outfit just were it. Be back out here in five minutes or I will come in and get you.” She told me as she handed me the outfit she had been carrying and shoved me into the changing room.
I took a good look at the outfit and realised what it was. It was no more than a super tight strapless bra and panties. They were both made of very thin white fabric that was almost transparent. I thought for a moment then got into the outfit without complaint. I opened the door and stepped into the hallway. Nurse Victoria was right were she had been when I went in.
“Good.” She said after giving me a once over. “Lets move I only have you for ten more minutes.” She stated as she started power walking down the hall. I rushed to keep up with her brisk pace. She turned into an open door way and walked in.
* * *
I drunk in my surroundings. I was in a plain white room without windows. In the center of the room was a white and blue wrestling mat. In one corner there was a rack of balls, in the other corner was a rack of free weights. Nurse Victoria wasted no time in going over to the balls and picking up a well-used midsized one. She lifted it a few times them deliberately dropped it on the floor, then looked at me.
“Pick it up and throw it as far as you can.” She said with a no-nonsense tone. I walked over to the ball and turned it on the ground till I could see the weight.
It was twelve pounds. There was a very slim chance I could get it off the ground let alone throw it. But I had to try. I couldn't’ ust say that I can’t. So I tried to lift it.
But it never made it more than a couple inches of the ground before I dropped it. I looked up at her and her expression was blank. Then she circled me like I was a dangerous animal and jotted down notes on her clipboard.
She motioned for me to fallow her to another door witch led out to a running track. On the running track were third level hurdles and dips. She walked over to a starting line and looked at me expectantly.
I walked over to the starting line and ran. I could see the first hurdle coming up and prepared to jump it. The hurdle looked high but not to high.
I jumped, almost made it over, had my foot hit it, and fell flat on my face. I got up and dusted off my once spotless outfit and looked at nurse Victoria. She was taking more notes on her clipboard. God, what is she saying about me!
She walked back to the door and went inside without a word. I fallowed her with equal silence. We walked though the gym and into the hall. We passed by the room were I had changed and Dr. Fringing’s office. Then we turned into an adjacent corridor that I had not noticed before.
We passed by many doors until we came to the end of the hall and walked into what I could only determine was an examination room.
There were wires, metal instruments and a large chair like the ones in dentist offices. I saw Dr. Fringing sitting at a computer, typing as fast as he could. When he saw that we had come in he rush over to the counter and grabbed and tray loaded with pill jars, tiny medicine measuring cups and a glass of water.
“Bishop please sit in the chair. I will get you heightening medicine ready as fast as I can. Victoria, you may go.” He said in a rushed manner. Then he proceeded in opening pill jars and pouring medicine.
When he had finished he took the jars off the tray and bought it over to me with only my medicine. There were about a thousand different pills and syrups there and only one glass of water.
But I still picked up a handful of pills, took the glass and knocked them back. Then I knocked back another and another. Then I started on the syrups and took them one at a time.
When I had finally finish all the medicine Dr. Fringing took a large step backward and examined me. He took a few notes on his clipboard then pulled a machine over to my chair.
He said something illegible into his headset and a nurse stepped into the room. He started untangling wires with electrodes on them and talking to the nurse. I think they were talking about me but I couldn’t be sure. The medicine had mad my brain a little foggy.
Then Dr. Fringing came at me and started putting the electrodes on my face.
“Stop!” I shouted. And he did.
Chapter 3
The body fell to the ground.
“What have you done!” the nurse exclaimed in horror as she scrambled out of the room. What a great question, don’t you think? I’d love to answer but, what had I done exactly? I had just wanted him to stop putting the electrodes on my face so I had shouted for the doctor to stop and he did. But he stopped everything. Moving. Blinking. Breathing. Then his skin slowly began to change to such an unhealthy shade, such a sickly pale, nearly blue, and I could feel as the life slipped out of him, just as he slipped from my hand. But as he went cold I felt an odd sensation of renewed power.
By the time anything else could happen, the nurse was rushing back into the room, with two men in peculiar suits following closely behind. The men each grabbed one of my arms in a deathly grip, lifting my feet just above the floor.
“Follow us peacefully and we will release your arms.” one of the men told me. I whispered my agreement and followed him out with the other man behind me. But, my mind was only on the last events.
I just killed a man. I only had to tell him and he did it without question and without control. He couldn’t even fight it for a second or two.
But I don’t care. What kind of soulless person doesn't care that they killed someone. My type of soulless person obviously. I guess I could blame it on the way I was raised.
I was raised with the belief that no one hated anyone.People could hate other peoples actions or other peoples words; but no one hated anyone entirely. This also led me to belief that if you said something that caused something it’s not your fault. But many people think I have a warped view of the world.
But I don’t think that was it. I think that it had something to do with my weird mutt skill. I think that whatever they gave me to enhance it made it powerful enough to kill someone. But no matter how much I try to ignore it I have a nagging felling that the medicine didn’t do anything and that my skill just came to me.
Oh and the power. I think that was his, the doctors power. I think that because I killed him I kind of robbed him of his power to feed my own. But once again I couldn’t care less. His life meant nothing to me but his power was just what I needed to kick the drug out of my system.
I realized the men had stopped and were talking in low rushed tones. They were obviously talking about me but trying to keep me from noticing. By listening in on them I only caught a few words but they were enough.
“Immediate deportation.” one man said. “Colony eleven.” The other one said.
This threw me off. Colony eleven? There were only ten colonies that I knew about. But I guess I would find out soon enough because the men were leading me into a small room with a television in front of a single chair.
“Sit and watch the movie, girl.” One of the men said to me.I nodded and sat to watch. Then the lights went dark and the screen lit up.
A woman came on screen in front of what looked like the tips of buildings surrounded with water. She was wearing a tweed suit and holding a giant microphone with the number five on it.
"Hear I stand. In front of the once famous city of Los Angeles." She began, gesturing to the roof-tops."As you can see the earthquake of twenty-thirteen completely destroyed they city, breaking it away completely from mainland California and putting almost completely submerged in water. It's been five years since the destruction and you can still feel the negative air radiating from the area. Geologist are estimating for it to keep sinking deeper and deeper for hundreds of years and that because of its sinking mountains will rise up around it. This information is causing the U.S. government to take drastic measures and evacuate the rest of the cost of California. This is Katy Percy signing off."
Then the screen faded out and white writing appeared and a man's voice started reading it. "Welcome participants. You have been specially selected by the United States top scientist to be part of the greatest experiment in history. You will be transferred shortly to the lost city of Los Angeles. You will be filled in more fully when you get there by an on site attendant. Have fun and good luck."
The television cut off and the lights went back on. Then the door opened.
* * *
A woman in a blue side cap and mid-length blue dress entered the room carrying a tray. The tray was covered in different packages of gum and and candy chews.
“Please take whatever you like. I will be your attendant until such time you are self sufficient.” She stated cheerily. “Now please fallow me to you flight. You will be introduced to to the other passengers on your way to colonies seven though ten. The plane will have only ten seats that all fold out into double beds. You are to sit in the seat with your colony number and nowhere else. You will also be required to read and understand the book you will be reading for your first class. I don’t recommend reading it cover to cover but to skim it and get the main points. The real history is allot different from what you have been told all your life. Any questions?” she said
