Top priority was ferrying him back over the red dirt clearing outside the perimeter wall. That way, on the off chance I ran out of fuel and he dropped, he wouldn’t crush anything. If he did drop, he’d probably jump back up and start thrashing, and my rings would be out of energy, which would put us back to square one, but it was my only choice.
I had to keep Titano aloft.
Everyone’s lives depended on it.
I concentrated on extending a smaller horizontal vector arrow that pushed Titano away from the outpost and toward the clearing. It was a much smaller arrow because I didn’t have the ring energy or physical stamina to extend a bigger one. My body already felt on the verge of exploding in a dynamic fireball. Half-grunting and half-squealing in pain, I gave it everything I had.
While the extracted energy from Titano’s mass came in, my rings’ dual fuel doughnut flickered up and down, up and down. But it was generally trending downward. Not good. Worse, the energy transfer through me felt a lot like getting electrocuted. Thousands of stabbing knives pummeling every inch of my body from the inside out.
“MOVE!” I shouted. “MOVE, YOU DUMB DINOSAUR! MOOOOOOVE!”
If Titano was moving horizontally, I couldn’t tell. No surprise. My horizontal vector arrow was too small. And, last time I checked, blimps didn’t weigh 10 million kilograms. The Goodyear blimp without helium weighed in around 9,000 kg for the “envelope” (the balloon) and another 1,000 kg for the gondola, totaling 10,000 kg. Imagine how much force it took to push that through the air. I was trying to push 1,000 times that much mass. And I can tell you, Titano was not very aerodynamic. His thrashing, twisting, and whipping side to side probably wasn’t helping me any.
As the intense energy ripped my insides apart, I started to think I was going to have a heart attack before I made any progress on moving Titano to a safer location.
I was about ready to give up when—
Loud jet turbines whooshed by overhead, cracking through the air and catching my attention. Sleekly futuristic fighter jets cut wide arcs through the lavender sky. Probably the Air Guard coming too late to do anything about Titano, but they could certainly help with pirates.
Then, when a gentle breeze blew in, pushing against my intended direction of horizontal travel for Titano, I laugh-cried in my mind, Stop with the freaking wind already!
Out loud, I shouted, “Nooooooo!”
I was hissing through clenched teeth and grunting like I was trying to deadlift an elephant… that weighed 10 million kilograms. At this rate, I was going to drop Titano thrashing on the outpost long before I moved him.
If that happened, he was so big, he’d flatten everything.
—: Chapter 21 :—
The strain of keeping Titano floating was frying my insides.
The pain was approaching fission, like every atom in my body was ready to go nuclear.
But I had to keep him afloat.
If I was going to prevent disaster, what I needed was a whole lotta pushing force that I could apply to Titano the Dinosaur Blimp, and fast. But I was using every bit of POSITION vectoring my body could stand. I needed some form of additional external force to move him away from the outpost buildings.
If the guardswomen in power armor weren’t busy fighting back pirates, they could help me push. Speaking of pirates, what happened to that? Comms were nearly silent.
“Where are the pirates?!” I shouted over comms.
“There aren’t any!” Someone responded. “It was just Boom-Boom trees!”
“What?!” I shouted.
“Boom-Boom trees! They have explosive fruit as big as your head! The trax knocked a few down! That’s all!”
“Are you sure?!”
“Sergeant Kane to Crown!” Hers was a new voice in the mix. “No pirates in the vicinity, my king! We’re clear from the jungle! Our only target is the trax!”
“Okay, good! I need help pushing him out over the dirt clearing! Can we get a bunch of guardswomen to physically push him away from the outpost using their power armor thrusters?!”
“Kane to Crown, he’s moving too much! We can’t get close without getting chomped or whipped by that tail of his! I don’t want to lose any more women!”
“Agreed. Let me think a second.”
My first thought: what if I extracted all mass from Titano’s brain and left him lobotomized? It could work, and it wouldn’t take long, would it? His total brain mass couldn’t be any more than 3,333 kg. Heck, it was probably smaller than that. I knew blue whales and sperm whales had brains that weighed only a few kilograms. Titano was bigger than an entire pod of blue whales, but his brain mass couldn’t be more than a few hundred kg’s. If I could find his brain in his skull and isolate my MASS extraction to brain tissue alone, I could eliminate it in less than a second. That would stop his deadly flailing. But then I’d have to leave his lifeless carcass lying in the red dirt clearing like a beached whale while I what, siphoned off all his body mass to get rid of him?
It would work, but for whatever reason, I balked at the idea of outright killing him by extracting his brain. He was an animal. Not an assassin. And the problem was his position. I needed to move him before I did anything else. If only he’d stop thrashing, I might be able to make some forward progress. Had I a gigantic tranquilizer gun at my fingertips, I’d use that. But I didn’t.
Wait.
Tranquilizer.
What if I calmed Titano, like I had Goldie the Gargantua?
That sounded like a much better idea.
I said over comms, “Don’t worry, Sergeant! I’ll calm the trax down first! As soon as he’s calm, I need you to direct every available soldier to put hands on him and push with your thrusters! When I give the word, we’ll ferry him over to the clearing outside the wall!”
“Are you sure, my king?!
