I go to my room?

Because it felt safe here. Because we weren't alone here.

I woke up with my muscles sore but my spirit rejuvenated--especially since I could smell freshly made coffee. I got off the couch, Louie lazily opening his eyes as I shifted my weight on it.

"Will you fix me some bacon for breakfast?" He sent the question in my head.

"Get up and fix your own breakfast, lazy-ass," I said, my voice deeper than usual.

"Bacooooooon," he howled, as he stretched his short legs.

"Morning, half-Celt," Rory said.

He was sitting at the long table, holding a steaming mug of coffee in one hand and his DEM tablet in the other.

"You got more coffee?" I asked, and nodded in greeting at Viki who was standing by the window again.

"I made seven jars before I got it right," he said, pointing at a few bottles filled with the brown liquid of the gods. "But now it's just right."

"We'd better have enough coffee left when we come back," I warned him and filled a mug for myself. "We've got a shitload to plan after we clear up Abrathion's monopoly."

"One step at a time, bigshot," he said and continued looking at his tablet.

"He's coming," Viki said suddenly, her hands now touching the window.

"Your contact?" Louie asked, and jumped off the couch. "Already? Can you see him from all the way up here?"

"I can shapeshift my eyes into something much more efficient than human eyes," she replied coldly. "We should get going."

"Alright," Rory said, and put his tablet back into his inventory. "Let's get going."

"We'll follow you from a distance," I said as we all moved toward the door. "If you need any help, just shout."

"I won't," she said, as we left the apartment and I locked the door behind us. "I'll take him out as soon as he leads me to the entrance. The moment you see me attack him, you can join in. The faster we take him out, the better."

"Don't ye worry," Rory said, and threw a cape above this battle-ready outfit.

Pretty soon, we were moving slowly under the cloudy New York sky, trying our best to look inconspicuous as we followed Viki through Central Park toward her contact. My phone rang and I picked it up, immediately putting the call on speaker. Since we couldn't follow close enough to listen to what she would be saying, we had agreed that she would call us and leave us on the line. That way, if we thought that her rendezvous was getting suspicious of her, we'd have enough time to dash forward and attack him.

"She's making a turn there," Rory said, and slightly tilted his head toward Viki who was a good hundred feet away from us.

"Let's turn here then," I said and led us around a small group of overgrown bushes.

We lost sight of her for a moment but when we found her again, she was approaching a man who was wearing a black tracksuit with white stripes on the side. We didn't hear her say anything until they were standing in front of each other.

"I got the book." Viki's voice echoed from my phone.

"Give to me and I'll take you to the boss," a deep voice replied.

"Nice try," Viki replied. "Take me to your boss. Now."

"Or what?" the man said and moved a step closer to her.

"I'll take you down and wait for your replacement," she said, not budging one bit. "You think your boss will bring you back when he finds out I had his book and you delayed me?"

For a couple of moments, there was silence and I was preparing myself for a run to assist her until the man talked again.

"You're crazier than that other doppelgänger bitch we got locked up," the man said, walking away from Viki who was now clenching her fists. "Follow me. It's ten minutes from here."

The man took the shortest route out of the park and we were soon crossing the now busy streets of the Upper West Side. The duo wasn't exchanging any further words, but the man was regularly looking around suspiciously. Thankfully, his eyes never rested on us.

He took turn after turn, the streets becoming less busy with each one, until he went down an alley and entered the yard of what looked like a bakery. We accelerated, trying to reestablish sight of them since they were now hidden by the walls surrounding the yard. Before we were able to reach them, we heard the man cry out in surprise.

"What the fuck is this?" he said. "You think you're funny bitch?"

We turned around the corner, just in time to see the man plunge a sword into... the man's ribs? Then I figured it out. Viki had taken his appearance and was about to land the final blow.

"Where are you keeping her?" the man shouted at himself, though there was no doubt it was Viki asking the question.

Instead of a reply, the man spat blood in her face. Calmly, she twisted her blade before pulling it out, leaving his entrails to fall to the ground with a splatter.

"You shouldn't have done that," she said, having reverted back to her own form, and then picked the man up from his armpits. "Come on. Help me hide the body."

Rory kicked the man's innards onto his open belly and grabbed him by the ankles. A few feet to their left was a large industrial garbage bin. Louie opened it with his telekinesis and in one fell swoop, they launched the body into it and Louie made sure the lid closed silently. Then we headed toward the staircase that would lead us to Abrathion's hideout.

"You said we should assist you when it was time to take him out," I said.

"He was an easier target than I thought," she replied. "Also, he wasn't very cooperative."

"So how do we get in without them knowing?" Louie asked.

"The difficult part was finding the entrance. From here on, it should be fine," she said.

"Should be?" I
