long as Simolia’s, but it went almost to the floor, it’s sleeves were long, but they were made of a paper light material, that was in a lighter blue than the body of the dress, “Hey girls let’s see if we could get her into this!” Katalia exclaimed, as she held up one of the many necklaces she got last year.
“You are crazy!” Kaliea exclaimed, and then lowered her voice, “She would never wear that even if you forced her to.”
“What wouldn’t I wear?” Megdelia said coming out from the screen shade.
“This.” The princess said simply, holding up the necklace.
“NO! NO! NO!” Megdelia exclaimed, “Come to the ball sure, wear a fancy dress that just so happens to be the princess’s,” She paused ,as if going over what word she was going to use then continued, “Acceptable, but her necklace? No! That is where I draw the line!”
“Aw, Come on please, just this once?” Katalia said persuasively.
“I don’t have a choice do I?” Megdelia asked
“No!” she said shortly, and with a smile blooming on her face, she knew she was victorious.
Megdelia gave a long frustrated sigh, “All right!”
She turned to let Katalia put it around her neck then gave a small smile.
A horn blew in the distance,
“Oh the visitors are arriving!” Simolia said as she rushed to the window to look out.
Sure enough she saw fancy carriages being pulled by pegasi of all sorts of colors. Giving a small squeal of anticipation, she turned to her friends and smiled.
“Well shall we go?” Katalia questioned after they were all changed.
Her friends nodded and smiled, they moved toward the door. As Simolia opened it, she gave a squeal of fear, as a gnome fell into the room,
“Please excuse me your highness, but I have some very important news to tell you!” he said in urgency.
The group looked at eachother then Katalia gave him the signal to continue, she didn’t know why but for some way she trusted him.
“Your Uncle is planning to poison your father tonight and marry you to his son if your mother doesn’t pay the ransom of giving him your kingdom!”
“Marry my cousin!” she exclaimed and gave an evident shiver, “Just the thought makes me disgusted.”
“How do you know this?” Aralina asked suspiciously as her eyebrows moved closer together.
“I have been his slave for almost my whole life ever since he threatened my family.” He explained solemnly.
“How terrible!” Megdelia exclaimed.
“Yes, but princess, please convince your father to not go to the ball. I don’t know how he is going to do it, but he will. The evil dark lord always finds a way,” the gnome pleaded.
“He has to go,” argued Kaliea, “because if he doesn’t, Prince Collin could choose a different bride since King Minas won’t be there. In order to marry Katalia, Prince Collin needs to have her father’s consent. She needs to marry him. Not just for her family, but for her people.”
“Yes,” Katalia agreed, “I will go. And I will tell my father of what you have told me. He will make sure that the castle is guarded securely. We will all be safe. Besides, all of my friends are with me, and my father and mother always make sure that I have at least two bodyguards. And even if Uncle Darius gets past them, guards will be with my father. And if Prince Collin is near, he can protect my father. After all, all princes are trained to protect the princesses (or kings, in this situation) if evil is afoot.”
“I hope that you’re right, princess,” Jolent said.
“Very well, Simolia, come with me. We are going to see my father. I also have to tell him who I am inviting,” the princess ended, and walked out of the room with Simolia right behind.
As soon as they had rounded the corner, Megdelia pulled off the necklace, hid it under the princess’s pillow, and sighed with relief to get the strange thing off. Jolent had left to follow the princess, while and Kaliea, Aralina, and Megdelia had to wait until the princess had returned with Simolia.
“OH NO!” Megdelia exclaimed, in panic.
“What?” the other two echoed.
“I forgot to put out the fire in the oven. Our dinner will not only be ruined, but black as soot.”she continued with worry.
Aralina laughed, but soon put a hand over her mouth, “I’m sorry for laughing, but I turned the oven off before we left.”
“How, when..” Megdelia asked confused, but Aralina put a finger over her mouth to shush her.
“Just trust me. All right?”
When the other two had gotten back, Katalia started teaching the girls how to walk in heels. The princess walked around perfectly with three books on her head, but the other girls couldn’t get one on their heads without them falling off within three to five seconds. Katalia was laughing hysterically, but the other girls were starting to get annoyed. Finally, the princess told them to give up, and she would teach them some other time, for they were already running late for the ball.
Megdelia was not (in the slightest) ready for what she saw. There was a man, who announced everyone who walked into the room. Tons of people were already dancing, but they stopped, when the announcer called out,
“His royal highness, King Minus, with her royal highness, Queen Alexandria.”
The king and queen descended the steps, and everyone bowed (or curtsied) when they got to the bottom. Katalia gulped, and Megdelia looked up to see that a young man had come up next to them. He was dressed like a prince, and Megdelia glanced at Katalia. Her face was pale. Confused, Megdelia looked at Simolia, who mouthed, Prince Collin. Megdelia nodded, then turned back to face the prince. He walked up to Katalia, and offered her his arm. She took it, and they walked to the stairs together. The announcer looked at them, then announced,
“His royal highness, Prince Collin, with her royal highness (here, Katalia turned to face her friends and made a face) Princess Katalia.”
The two heirs descended the steps, and walked up to the king and queen, where the prince bowed, and the princess curtsied. Then, the king and queen started the royal dance, with the two younger people following.
Here, Megdelia, Simolia, Aralina, and Kaliea all went up to the announcer together, who asked for their names, then called them out as they walked down the steps.

The next hour was confusing for Megdelia. She danced with lots of boys, and Prince Collin, (after Katalia told her to) and she ate, and talked with her friends, who had all undergone the same treatment, except for Katalia, who danced only with her father, prince Collin, and her brother who couldn’t keep his eyes off of Aralina. There were a couple of lucky boys who were allowed to dance with the princess, but not without her two guards dancing next to her with two of her friends, Simolia and Kaliea, which two guards knew worked in the palace and were safe to be around the princes.
“Hey Aralina, have you seen Jolent anywhere?” Megdelia whispered as she found herself near her friend. Aralina looked around then shook her head.
“No I don’t see him, but then again he is so small. We probably wouldn’t.” Aralina replied, as she looked around for the small gnome.
“Excuse me, may I have this dance?” a stranger asked as he walked up to Aralina. Aralina looked at Megdelia with a scared look on her face. Megdelia nodded vigorously and made a shooing motion with her hands. Aralina turned back to the tall stranger and nodded. The young man held out his hand. Aralina felt a slight push on her back and soon she ran right into him. She looked up and smiled shyly. He smiled right back at her and led her onto the dance floor.
“And what’s your name.” asked the young man as the two waltzed across the floor.
“Aralina.” she answered quietly.
“Mine is James,” he paused for a moment then continued, “Prince James.” Aralina’s eyes widened. She was dancing with royalty. What had Megdelia gotten her into?
Kaliea and Simolia where at the punch table when they noticed the prince all of a sudden run up to Aralina, and ask her to dance. They were not surprised about that, he had been watching her all evening. What was surprising was when Aralina nodded and then stumbled into him. The two looked at each other with amused expressions. Those expressions went to shock as the king himself came up to them and asked if they would save a dance for him. They mutely nodded as he walked over to Megdelia and bowed. Megdelia’s face turned bright red in embarrassment as all heads turned towards her and the crowd shushed. Megdelia took the kings outstretched hand, and the orchestra began a very lively dance that she did not know all of the steps to. But the king very kindly helped her out when he could. After the dance was done and Megdelia was back with her friends, the king walked up to one of the young dukes and pulled him aside. The young duke nodded then headed over to Megdelia shortly afterward. They came over to the punch table and Simolia and Kaliea.
“Girls this is Duke Roald his father is one of the chief advisers of the king.” Megdelia explained.
“Duke Roald these are two very good friends of mine. Kaliea and Simolia. Aralina is the girl still talking with the prince over there. And I have no idea where Katalia is!” Megdelia answered. At Duke Roald’s raised eyebrow she corrected herself, “I mean I do not know where the princess is.”
The group went on talking for a while, until the King came up and asked Simolia to dance with him. Simolia nodded, and soon afterward Katalia’s body guards came up to them.
“Have you three seen the princess?” Came the worried reply of the one that Kaliea had danced with. The group shook their heads.
“No, we haven’t seen her highness since she was dancing with Prince Collin.” Kaliea answered. The two looked at each other fearfully then looked back at the group.
“Do you know where the king is?” the other one asked.
“Yes, in the middle of the dance floor with Simolia.” Duke Roald supplied. The two guards looked at them once again. Then one bowed and took the other’s hand and joined the crowd dancing. The three looked at each other trying hard not to laugh at the spectacle of the two knights dancing together.
“Should we join them?” Duke Roald asked Megdelia who smiled and nodded. Kaliea was just about to get another glass of punch when she saw a pointed hat peek out from one of the glass doors. She sat down her cup and walked toward the door, but was stopped when another Duke came up to her and asked to dance. Not wanting to
