the universe has a set of prescribed and immutable laws that underlie all the interactions of its various parts. It is the mechanics of the universe that science is focused on and that has revealed so many wondrous secrets to us. But the mechanics are only a part of the whole. It is when science attempts to plumb the very heart or crux of our universal reality that it goes astray for suddenly the mechanics by itself turn out to be insufficient to determine its origins.
And so it remains a mystery.
It seems odd that the scientific community has not considered the obvious. Certain aspects upon which the entire universal reality relies are simply taken for granted, never discussed and are consequently not observed in any detail. In no way does science account for these phenomena, not in any theory or law so far devised. It is science’s contention that the universal archetypes need no special treatment – they just are the way they are.
Why has science taken the ultimate description of the Godhead and ascribed it to lesser functions that, if studied in detail, could shed light on their intellectual impasse?
A part of the reason is historical. Having been severed from God stripped science long ago of the perfect concept upon which to hang the idea of something that just is so. Another reason is intellectual. The prime archetype demands representation in any forum that wishes to describe reality and science understood this, at least subliminally, from the outset. That is why certain fundamental concepts have been labeled as just being that way.
This is where we shall part company with science.
The Present and the Paradox
The first moment of the universe was the very first present. Yet the present jumping into existence from nothing is a paradox. So the first two concepts to be created were the present and the paradox.
It could be postulated that introducing the concept of the paradox seems to indicate a loophole for all phenomena that may later prove too difficult to explain. However, by remaining relative, at no time will the paradox be employed as a means to side-step a concept that cannot readily fit into this theory. Having put forward this disclaimer lets examine these two concepts in more detail.
Our lives are lived in a string of presents that progress forward in an immutable fashion. At no time does it stop this movement. At no time do we suddenly find ourselves immersed in the past with the present rushing away ahead of us. Science has dressed this idea up in the form of time. But time is not the present. In fact, time is the opposite of the present. Time is, instead, a representation of the natural flow of present to present while it is the awareness of the present that requires that time move in only one direction. The awareness of time is the manifestation of the paradox.
Time is not an irreducible concept the way that the present is. Going back to the very first moment of creation immediately clarifies the reducibility of time because the first instant of the universe required no time at all. Time is a measure of increments but there was no increment that had yet transpired so time could not yet have had any meaning (and we shall see how it only had meaning the third instant of creation). But the present did. From the outset the present has served as the contextual vehicle upon which all phenomena rely for their very existence, including time itself.
The world we perceive seems to be a place where the various celestial objects, including the earth and all its inhabitants, are locked into the fabric of reality and this fabric is being inexorably pulled along through the sequential steps of the succeeding presents. Why the present should move along at all from one to the next in a seamless and completely anonymous fashion is a great enough mystery. The fact that each current moment must be recreated anew is completely overlooked. Unlike a universe that is real which could truly have a set of hard and fast immutable laws this universe is not real and so must be constantly updated to continue the deception. In other words, since the world is an illusion then the illusionist must continually conjure it up.
Remember, the illusion is that there is only God here yet we do not see it that way, concluding as we do that we are somehow separate from the Divine. It is as though some of our own cells were to deny that they are part of the body. The denial of those cells doesn’t make them any less what they are – a part of the body. What this means is that God created the universe and God continues to create each and every current moment. Those moments are intricately woven together in such a fashion so as to form an almost perfect continuum that is the Great Now. So perfect is this transition that we are not aware of it on virtually any level and that is why we perceive the universe as substantial and time as immutable.
The very first moment of the budding universe is a special case in point. This is the easiest moment to create, from our point of view, because there are, as yet, no hindering criteria to satisfy. From this point on, however, all presents will be required to adhere to the precepts of the present which came before it and to make the transition to it as perfect as possible. It is the criteria set out in the preceding sentence that represents the paradox.
The paradox is the nopole in action. That the nopole, an entity that is to our way of thinking as close to nothing as a thing can get, should handle the infinite permutations that are required in order to simulate a seamless transition from moment to moment is at the very limits of our ability to conceptualize. Is it any less marvelous how the monopole, an entity which we perceive as everything there is, dresses itself in the new clothes of the present on an ongoing basis? How can everything there is, a static and changeless thing, continually seem to change?
The fact that the present is a constantly changing, unchangeable thing is the greatest paradox of All!
Notice also how the archetypes are adhered to. First, the present, which represents the one changeless moment and the union of all forms, as the concept of the manifest universe presupposes. Each moment of now is not separate from any other moment, although it may seem as though it is. It is always now, never later nor sooner. Second, the paradox lobbies for the alternative, the other or next now, because there always is one. In a universe of duality, which this is, the opposite is never beyond the reach of its other half.
The third element to complete the logic triangle is plurality. Plurality emphasizes the relative differences, the localized inequities found among the finite systems that abound in the universe. Plurality can be refined and reduced to the concept of duality because the awareness of any system requires at least one subject and one object, the observer and the observed. From the point of view of the paradox the present is an impossibility, and vice versa. Adopting the stance of plurality declares the illogical but irrefutable premise that both exist simultaneously despite what either viewpoint may propose.
To quickly recap: the present, the paradox and plurality were the first ingredients in God’s universal recipe, the very moment of creation.
The Circle and the Dot
In the story, The Circle and the Dot, the paradox is evident when Dot encounters Camarillo, his counterpart. Although the reader is left wondering what the connection is between the two until later in the story, Dot and Camarillo are one and the same entity. It is the odd nature of that relationship, then, that represents the corralation between the present and the paradox.
The present is personal. It is contigent on the awareness of the individual. Therefore the present requires sentience in order to manifest.
The paradox is interpersonal. It is contingent on the awareness of the collective. Therefore the paradox requires omniscience in order to manifest.
Also, the culmination of the story reveals the basic gist of this entire work: That we are both one of many and All One simultaneously. That simple truth requires a mechanism, an explanation. That explanation is contained in the creation of the present and the paradox. They are the two poles that are linked by necessity to the concept of plurality.
Recreating now
The eternal now and the wily paradox coexist while both are in denial of the other and are pressed together into a dimensionless dot. That is what we, as participants of the grand illusion, perceive as the most likely state of the newborn universe.
Notice how something doesn’t seem to sit right? The paradox can readily be seen as an entity with a particular set of unique properties that do not waver over time, sort of like the four forces of science. The problem arises because of the way the present is viewed. How could all the presents that would ever be have existed from the very start?
We see the present changing with the passage of time so its properties seem to also change. Electrons move around the atoms’ nucleus, the planets move around the sun, the sun around the galaxy and so on. At any given moment the pattern of matter and energy in the universe is absolutely unique and is not equal to any other moment. However, if the pattern of matter and energy were calculated to reveal, say, the total energy of the universe at two distinct instants they would be exactly equivalent. The same would be true in terms of the combined mass of the universe at any two distinct moments.
The pattern within any given frozen instant of time reveals the information inherent in the system at that particular time. Information is simply the way that things are in relation to each other. They are in formation. At another instant the information will be unique because the formation will be unique. It is this conundrum that is the paradox in action.
Why is it that the paradox as a context is easier to grasp than the present is? On the other hand, why is the concept of the paradox more difficult to rationalize than the present?
Awareness

If there was no awareness the universe wouldn’t make sense because there would be nothing to delude with the illusion. The present moving along from moment to moment requires awareness to lend it credence. It is this relationship which leads the way out of the darkness. Since everything in the universe is a part of God it is fair, in some sense, to say that everything is aware to one extent or another. The illusion that is this universe relies on the fragmented awareness of its constituent members. Awareness is the key to the puzzle; the illusion is akin to the lock that it fits into.
The awareness of the present is fundamental to all phenomena because to be in the present requires it – without awareness there is no present. So awareness is universal.
